R.
D. TAYLOR Bamboo Fly Rods |
 |
Bob Taylor has spent over 30 years refining his craft as a rodmaker
of distinction with the Leonard Rod Co. and with Thomas & Thomas
Rodmakers and as his own man. With an unmistakable eye toward quality and
with a keen understanding of the needs of discriminating angler, Bob has
produced a series of rods already recognized to be among the finest in
fly-fishing’s rich history. Bob’s rods combine superb performance with
breathtaking attention to detail. They are handcrafted with a love for the
work and a deep concern for tradition.
You’ll treasure them forever. |
 |
The
great bamboo rodmakers of yesteryear spent countless hours crafting their
personal vision of the perfect fishing rod. Men like Leonard,
Payne, Edwards, Thomas, Halstead and Hawes, to name a few, relied on their
intuition as artists and attention to the finest details as craftsmen in
this pursuit. Sadly, in today’s mass-produced fly fishing world, the
emphasis has shifted away from quality, to quantity, leaving the
discriminating angler awash in its impersonal wake. |

|
Each R. D. Taylor rod is constructed from the finest materials
available, including select Tonkin cane, 18% nickel silver fittings,
premium grade cork for the grips, and select silk for windings. They
arrive in a hand made soft cloth rod sack and a distinctive polished brass
and aluminum rod case. |
|
Bob does build both natural finish and flamed finish rods.
The Natural-tone rods feature a lovely blonde (straw) tone finish to the
bamboo, complimented by bright nickel silver hardware and ferrules, black
guides and tip-tops, and are hand-wrapped with a delightful dark golden
bronze silk tipped with deep red edgings. The Flame-tone rods feature a striking brown-tone
finish to the bamboo, offset by oxidized black nickel silver hardware and
ferrules, black guides and tip-tops, and are hand-wrapped with a
delightful dark golden bronze silk tipped with deep red edgings. The
handcrafted walnut reel seat is finished with numerous coats of hand
rubbed varnish and the reel seat is either up-locking or slide band as
appropriate to the length and line weight of the rod. |
