Sweet Water Rods are predominately made with flamed bamboo, though brown-tone and blonde rods are available on special order. Aged Tonkin culms are individually selected for the specific requirements of each rod. All rods feature a swelled butt and book-matched tips. Ferrules and slide band hardware are blued, with complimenting gunsmoke titanium carbide snake guides wrapped with 000 silk. Extra fancy wood reel seat and a brass capped rod tube complete the package. Rods are made to be esthetically as well as sensually pleasing. The taper designs that George uses are the results of his own fishing experience and seem to favor the very practical and delightful, progressive, semi-parabolic dry fly action with fine tips. George's rods cast with authority and precision and are delicate when designed to be so and powerful when designed for that purpose. Each we've experienced has been a smooth and easy to cast, very comfortable rod. |

George has also been conducting Rod Building Classes and Workshops giving his students hands-on instruction of building a bamboo rod from scratch. His book on building fine cane rods has proved an inspiration to many interested in the magic of building a bamboo rod. In addition to sharing his expertise, he has started a business of supplying builders with some of the more difficult to acquire components and rod building supplies. We admire that willingness to share knowledge of craft and fully respect the level of accomplishment it requires to teach others. |
