Spring Creek Rods Tom Nigro of Spring Creek Rods has been making finely crafted rods on a part-time basis for a number of years in central PA. His rods are based on the pinpoint accuracy, delicacy and quality of craft needed not only to perform well on Pa's famed creeks, but to satisfy some really tough local customers who, in addition to expecting perfection in performance, absolutely demand it in appearance. That these tough requirements have been met and exceeded is borne out by the fact the Tom is not only still here, "doing his thing", but for the past year or so, has been doing it on a full time basis, thanks to the recognition his fine work has deservedly garnered. Tom builds both six and four sided rods in the most desired lengths and line weights and does so using both proven classic tapers and proprietary tapers that have been torture tested on Spring Creek, Penn's Creek, Fishing Creek and host of other Limestone and Freestone streams in that magic area of Pennsylvania. We are delighted to add Tom's efforts to our offering of fine quality bamboo fly rods. Spring Creek rods are simply magnificent, incredibly pretty fly rods and a pure delight in every respect. Their action tends to a lovely medium to medium/fast dry fly with a fine tip perfectly balanced to a powerful butt section providing the caster with control, distance and finesse all wrapped up in the same rod. These are the basic “Eastern” trout rod and if any of his models were your only cane rod, it would never disappoint you on performance. Most are fitted with beautifully striated and toned figured hardwood seats fitted with bright N/S hardware. They are light in the hand and perform as well as some of the best known makers’ rods requiring a 2 to 5 years wait for delivery and at triple the price. The rods boast a lovely medium flamed Caramel color, turned N/S reel seat hardware with knurled trim, nose-check and ring-type fly keeper. The N/S ferrules are bright, the standard Cigar grip is totally comfortable and the Brown wraps are nicely understated and add a delightful touch to an already classy fly rod. All rods are provided in a cloth bag and brass capped aluminum case. Our arrangement with Tom is to accept any rod model he feels like building at any given time for our inventory. He does his best to send us a rod every few months and we love the mystery of never knowing what is going to show up! When we do have a rod or two from the gifted maker, they are always found listed on our “Classic Rods Bamboo” page on this site. Check often, they never last long!
