Chinese Red t/Black with full Red Intermediates. Varnished. This later Kosmic rod (circa 1901) was marketed by U.S. Net & Twine, then owners of the Kosmic Co. and the butt cap is hand engraved with the name and the serial #2474 . The original Celluloid reel seat barrel features the distinctive N/S side rails this historically important rod is known for. The famed patented celluloid cushioned, swelled ferrules are also original and are a feature unique only to the Kosmic rod. One tip is full length, one is 1-1/2" short and the third is 3-1/2" short, both from the top: all other rod sections are the original length. The shortest tip also has a repair over-wind at the ferrule and a replacement ferrule that could be factory done. The N/S tip-tops are all original as are the reverse English style snake guides and the Red Agate stripper. The grip is formed of uniquely narrow 1/8" cork rings. The rear check is loose from shrinkage, but still there. The stripper had been moved rearward about 2" at some later date, demonstrated by the lighter colored varnish in that area. All the rest of the varnish is deep orange color and original. This rod is fitted into a cedar formed wood case which is grooved for three tips. There are also two agate stripper guide sockets in the wood case at the original location and at the new one. The cloth outer case cover appears original. This rod is mostly in original condition except for the above mentioned items and is actually sound enough to take fishing. With original silks and varnish, it is in unmolested excellent condition. Somewhat reminiscent of the Young Midge, it is more delicate, feels real good in the hand and has a power reserve that belies its light weight. The snakes are black, the ferrules are oxidized Super Z style and the grip is a standard Cigar shape. The reel seat is a down locking morticed slide band seat with bright hardware over a beautiful piece of  hand selected Burled Amboyna. The finish is lovely and the rod will make its owner proud. Back in the 1950's Tom spent his teenage years working in and generally hanging around the Paul Young's rod shop and store in Detroit. Those years of direct contact with both Paul and Bob Summers left and indelible mark on a young man who has now come full circle and is offering his  own well designed rods to bamboo aficionados. Tom's personal fly casting and fishing experience over the past 45 years has also favorably influenced his development of taper modifications loosely based on the designs of Paul himself. Back in the 1950's Tom spent a part of his miss-spent youth working in and generally hanging around Paul Young's rod shop in Detroit. Those years of direct contact with both Paul and Bob Summers left and indelible mark on a young man who has now come full circle and is offering his own Young influenced rods to bamboo aficionados.      12985. EDEN CANE. 7'0". Model 704-2. 2/2. #4. 2.8 oz. Medium/Fast. Bamboo/Cork U&D/L N/S S/B. Clear Tan t/Brown. Varnished. NODE LESS CONSTRUCTION. All the weak bamboo nodes are removed in every Eden Cane rod. With these weak spots joint scarfed out and replaced by 18% more solid bamboo power fiber, the results are nothing short of amazing! It was quickly discovered that conventional taper designs did not fully exploit all the the advantages that the node less construction method had to offer. Since rods made without nodes inherently faster and stronger than their conventional counterparts, taper designs were evolved to take full advantage of this lighter blank-to-line size ratio. The results of all this labor intensive effort have become legend. Eden Cane rods simply outperform equivalent conventionally built rods, period! This first of the 2008 build period rods is of Cognac color bamboo with translucent Clear Tan t/Brown wraps and full Premium Grade Cork in the grip & seat. A unique feature of the reel seat is the use of two special Bamboo Strips as the backbone of the seat. This forever prevents crushing of the cork spacer over time by the slide band, a problem common to all cork reels seats of routine design.   The mirror-image tips are dot-marked 1 & 2. The signature wrap is a unique single thread spiral wrap, done to call attention to the single thread wrap tipping in the center of each guide wrap! The hand drawn Mayfly Nymph on the butt above the signature is there to remind the observer of the attention to detail lavished on every Eden Cane rod. wraps and varnish sparkle and are about perfect. The overall aesthetic of this rod is masterful understatement. The stripper is Agatine with Snake Brand snake guides. The N/S Super-Z style ferrules are oxidized as is the N/S seat hardware which features the Eden cane trademark, an Up AND Down locking Cap & Ring seat carrying the EC logo engraved in the Butt cap. This unique seat design allows for the reel placement position to be changed to suit your casting style and feel for balance. The swelled butt is offset at the grip by an oxidized N/S nose check which brackets the magnificent Premium Grade cork Standard Cigar grip. Details abound everywhere, and include single thread edgings centered in the wraps at the guides; a simple, single thread, spiral signature wrap and "mirror image" tips. The taper of this rod is designed to produce an accurate, pleasant and delicate action equally suited to wet or dry fly applications. It is built to place a DT4 or TT4 line wherever you want it, with no effort on your part. It does that, easily, yet somehow it retains the ability to present the fly softly and with grace, and protect ultra fine tippets, a lovely combination. Provided in a cloth rod bag and a first quality true Brass-appointed Aluminum rod case carrying the Freestone, (EC's parent Co.) label. Eden Cane rods are the epitome of the bamboo art and consistently re-enforce the adage that "quality never disappoints". BRAND NEW. 3950.00.

13017. EDEN CANE. 7'9". Model 7916-10. 3/2. #3/4. 3.7 oz. Medium/Fast. Spalded Burled Maple U/L N/S S/B. Translucent Straw t/Cinnamon. Varnished. More than a decade ago, Eden Cane began its business by building node less rods exclusively. With the weak spot nodes removed and replaced by 18% more bamboo power fiber in every Eden Cane rod it was quickly discovered that conventional taper designs did not fully exploit all the the advantages that the node less construction method had to offer. Since rods made without nodes are inherently faster and stronger than their conventional counterparts, taper designs were evolved that take full advantage of this lighter blank-to-line size ratio. The results of all this labor intensive effort have become legend in a relatively short time. This rod model is presently cataloged as the Model 794-3. It is a flawless Blond color bamboo with translucent Straw t/Cinnamon wraps and a beautifully figured piece of Spalded Burled Canadian Maple wood comprising both the reel seat and the grip nose check. The overall aesthetic of this rod is one of sparkling, yet subtle understatement, blended with rich touches throughout the rod. The stripper is Amber Agatine with bright snakes. The N/S Super-Z style ferrules are bright as is the N/S seat hardware which features the Eden Cane up-locking, single slide band seat, a trademark. The swelled butt takes care of unwanted vibrations while casting and the rod is perfectly varnished. Details abound everywhere, and include "two-turn" thread edgings at the guides, and "mirror" tips. The incredible casting feel of this rod results from a proprietary rod taper designed to produce an accurate, pleasant and delicate action equally suited to wet or dry fly applications. It is designed to place a DT3 or 4 line precisely where you want it, with no effort on your part. It does that, easily, yet somehow it retains the ability to present the fly softly and with grace, a lovely combination. Comes in a cloth partition lined Cordura rod case. M. $3450.00

13025. EDEN CANE. 8'6". Model 8618-11 Bass/Steel Head. 3/2. #7. 5.9 oz. Medium/Fast. Buckeye Burl U/L N/S S/L w 1" Perm butt. Translucent Honey/Tan t/Cinnamon. Varnished. This rod model had been long awaited as it went through the design and testing process. Some pretty fussy outdoor writers and fly fishing authors were involved in this rods creation and testing. The rod model has been tested by fire and has stood up to all manner of hard use with remarkable results. It has handled a lot of large and very hard fighting Small Mouth and Largemouth Bass and Steel Head and never once faltered in almost two years of brutal testing. A compliment to the perfectly designed and tweaked tapers that cast a 7 line beyond perfection and have the power to handle big fish with ease. This is the very last of this model scheduled to be built for a long while now as Bernard's attention turns to keeping up with the demand for his trout rods. This rod is a magnificent flamed Dark Caramel colored bamboo rod with Honey/Tan translucent wraps and a gorgeous marbleized darker toned Burled Buckeye wood reel seat. The stripper is Red Agatine with bright snakes. The N/S Super-Z style ferrules are bright is the Nickel Silver hardware featuring a mortised, reverse screw lock seat on a striking piece of wood. The Western style Cigar grip features matching N/S front & rear winding check that brings a superb finishing touch to a modern masterpiece. NODE-LESS CONSTRUCTION. All offending nodes are removed in construction of every Eden Cane rod. The results are nothing short of amazing with the addition of 18% more bamboo power fibers to e very rod. The action of this exciting rod is one of the smoothest I've ever cast in a heavyweight cane rod. It is designed to punch a DT7/WF8 line and a big, wind resistant fly into a breeze, yet, it is beautifully balanced and does not hammer the caster. This rod seems tailor made for the Triangle Taper 7 Line and Canadian Small Mouth lakes & rivers and Steel Head and Salmon rivers. Comes in a partitioned cloth rod bag, all housed in a handmade hard leather rod case by Arne Mason. Pure class and performance too! Brand New Condition. M. 3450.00

13002. GRANGER – GOODWIN. 7'6". Premier. Model GP7633. 3/2. #4/5. 3-3/4 oz. .Medium/Fast Dry Fly. Monel Rev S/L. Light Gold. Varnished. Very seldom seen by collectors, this is the second highest grade Goodwin Granger model. Premier models were all built from the same culm of bamboo, as were the Registered Models, according to the 1941 Granger catalog. This rod is from that war era and is fitted with the famed Granger up locking reel seat in rare Monel metal. This one is stamped "Goodwin Granger Company, Denver" and is of Monel, which is brighter than Nickel Silver. It is always just a wonderful experience to turn up one of these Goodwin Granger Premier Model rods, especially this particular model. This and the 7 footers are the most elusive of the Granger Rods to find and are very rare. We seem to see one of these about every two years or so, when we are lucky. Everybody talks about this rod, but hardly anyone has ever seen one. That aside the rod is in excellent plus, original condition with a well-done, later varnish overcoat and is ready to fish with. The grip is the classic Western Style Half Wells grip. Includes the original cloth bag. The war-time cardboard rod case is also original with the original gold color paper label in place. Tremendously gratifying lighter line rod with the most pleasant casting action. Sweet and delicate line presentation with a DT4 or a WF5 line. Rare chance to own one of the best 7-1/2 foot rods ever built in delightful original condition. One of the most difficult of all the Granger rod models to acquire. E. $1850.00    SOLD

12999. HARDY. 6'10”. Phantom – Hollokona. 2/1. #5. 2-3/4 oz. Fast. Cork S/B. Black t/Red. Varnished. Hollowbuilt by Hardy in 1965. Lovely small stream dry fly rod. Light weight and a fast powerful action for a DT5 line give this rod an excellent feel and casting accuracy. Made originally with just the single tip and packed in the classic heavy cotton rod bag with hang-tag and factory aluminum tube. All original and complete with agate stripper and in excellent condition. E. $1100.00

13020. HARDY. 8'0". The Fairchild Rod. 3/1. #5. 3-7/8 oz. .Medium. Cork Universal S/B. Green w/full Intermediates. Varnished. This wonderful Hardy trout rod built in 1938 clearly demonstrates the level of craftsmanship that Hardy was famous for. The rod has has a single tip and although there is a second tip with the rod, it does not match. Curiously, the ferrule fits and matches, so you are all set if you choose to have another tip made for the rod. (It is worth doing!) White Agate tip-top and matching Agate stripper. Reverse English snakes and Walnut ferrule plugs round out the detailed touches of this easy-casting, true medium action fly rod. The full English intermediate wraps really set this rod off from the routine bamboo look. The rod remains in excellent original condition throughout, in the original cloth rod bag and a pre-war small diameter Hardy Aluminum rod case. Fitted with a cigar grip and all cork slide band seat to take any size reel foot. It is sweet with a DT5 line and will prove to be a joy to fish. E. $795.00

19992. HARDY. 12'0". SET OF THREE A. H. E. WOOD Steelhead & Salmon Rods. 3/2. #7/8/9. 12 to 13 oz. Spey action without Steel Center. Cork sliding S/L seat. Chinese Red. Varnished. A magnificent set of three, brand new condition rods patterned after the original set of rods designed in the 1920's by A. H. E. Wood and detailed in Jock Scott's book "Greased Line Fishing". These 3 exceptional rod models were offered by Hardy from 1928 to 1952, when they were discontinued Noted Steelhead angler and accomplished caster, Chuck Doke special ordered these rods built for him by Hardy in 2 complete sets in 1965 and said it took Hardy nearly 3 years to find bamboo of high enough quality to build the 6 rods without the Steel Rod Center, as were the originals. (Steel rod center construction was originally used to allow lesser quality cane to be used in Salmon Rod construction and still provide the power needed to cast with these rods. It worked, but added a lot of unnecessary weight and interfered with the action of the rods and also suffered delamination woes if improperly stored. The process was eclipsed by using double building methods). These 2 sets were completed and delivered in 1968 as attested to by their "J" series  serial number. Doke, who fished with Stan Bogdan Alec Jackson, Syd Glasso and others fished one set and put this set back for posterity. He said these rods can do things that no other bamboo 2-handed rod can. Interestingly, they were designed to be able to be used either double or single handed, thanks to the Hardy "Universal Style" reel seats. These 3 rods are all 12 feet long and each takes one heavier line size of double taper line, (one a 7 weight, second an 8 weight and third a 9 weight). They are in never used, new condition, with the original clear plastic wraps on the grips. Weights are 12-1/4 , 12-3/4 and 13-1/4 ounces respectively. Fitted with reinforced twist-lock ferrules, clear Agate stripper guides and clear Agate tip-tops, perfect circle bridge guides, original bag, bag tags, and sculptured aluminum ferrule plugs. These rods represent an opportunity for their owner to preserve an important bit of angling history by owning this set as it may now well be the only   set of these incredible 2-hand rods left in existence. (It is preferred by yours truly, that the set remain intact, but I will consider splitting the set up and selling individual models. If done, the price is $2500 per rod and they come as originally delivered with factory canvas cloth bag only and no outer case). Hardy will no longer make these rods today, as the craftsmen who crafted these 40 years ago are gone, but, if done today their cost would exceed $3500 per copy, making this one-of-a-kind set an excellent investment at only $5900.       M. 5900.00.

19993. HARDY - L.R.H.  Salmon  SPEY.  14'0".  Split Bamboo.  3/2.  #10.  24 oz.  Spey Casting.  Special Slide Locking Seat.  Red w/ Dark Green Edgings. Varnished. Made in 1968 by Hardy of England. Made continuously from 1948 to 1967. This rod was made to special order for Chick Doke, noted Steelhead Fisherman, after being officially discontinued and is possibly the very last of this magnificent model ever made. Hardy's famed Palakona Spilt Bamboo two-handed salmon rod with serial number J3994. The rod shows no use with long two-handed grip with down locking reel seat, rubber end cap, wrapped in red silk tipped dark green and the ferrules are wrapped in copper color thread. Finished with blued N/S screw locking ferrules and ferrule plugs. The stripping guide is translucent brown synthetic agate and tip tops are clear synthetic agate, original bag with label still attached. Delivered originally without tube, but fitted by Doke with a custom Hard Leather Wes Jordan Style Rod case from Orvis. This is a serious salmon rod with plenty of power to throw a long line on big water. It will require a 4/0 or 5/0 size reel and would be ideally mated to the Hardy Cascapedia Reel listed elsewhere on this site. With that (or similar), reel it is correctly balanced. Hardy won't make this rod today but if they did, it would sell for more than $3500.00. Here are some of the impressive dimensions. The bamboo ahead of the grip is 5/8" in diameter, the stripping guide is 1" in diameter, and the butt ferrule is over 1/2" in diameter and almost 4 inches long. The guides are a bridge guides for strength and are double wrapped. All fittings are highly polished. These rods are almost never found in this condition.        M. 2450.00.

19971. HEDDON.   7'6".   Model 14.     Thorobred Featherweight.    2/2.  #4.  3-1/2 oz.   Medium/ Fast. Walnut S/L.   Red t/Black.   Varnished.   Nearly as scarce in this length as the seven foot Heddon rod, these two piece 7-1/2' Heddons almost never turn up. This late 30's rod is in very good factory original condition with minor varnish touch up to the guide winds and the occasional varnish blemish. Size 0-3/4 ferrule provides a delicate medium dry fly action for a DT4 line. Rod, bag and aluminum case are factory original and the rod remains in very good used condition with original bag label present. Another exceptional opportunity for the fisherman looking for a quality classic cane rod in a very modern fishable length. Needs no work to fish right now but after a few seasons of enjoyment with the rod you might be inclined to have it professionally restored to new. It is certainly worthy of the work. VG. 995.00.

12921.  heddon.  9'0".  Model 17.   Black Beauty.   3/2. #7/8. 5 oz. Medium/Fast. Tenite S/L. Black. Varnished. Heddon's revered Model 17 in totally original and complete condition. The rod appears original throughout with no short or repaired sections. Factory rated for a DT7 line, but casts a WF8 line even better. It could stand a coat of varnish to "dress it up", if you are real fussy, but it is sound, straight, and tight enough to fish "as is" without concern. The shaft lettering is original and perfectly preserved with the 2-1/2 ferrule size indicated in black ink. Comes with the original cloth bag and cloth spec label all intact and with the original Black finish aluminum case with foil label. Ready to fish with no work needed. Circa the late 1940's. VG. 425.00.

12920. J. C. HIGGINS - H-I.  9'0". Model 3001. 3/2. #7/8. 5 oz. Medium/Fast. Tenite S/L. Dark Green. Varnished. Model 3001. Bamboo rod made for Sears, Roebuck under the J. C. Higgins label by Horrocks-Ibbotson. The rod appears original throughout with no short or repaired sections. Higgins" factory decal is perfectly preserved with the model number "3001" lettered on in white ink. Comes with the original cloth bag and with the original paper label intact and with the original Aluminum rod case. Ready to fish with no work needed. Circa the late 1940's. VG. 195.00.

12944.  HOWELLS - GARY.  8'6".  Trout.  2/2.  #5/6.  4-1/8 oz.  Medium.  Walnut rev S/L.  Brown t/Yellow.  Varnish.  Serial #4545.  Beautifully made, gentle rod in nearly new original condition. Delightful, easy to  cast, medium action rod that performs especially well with a DT5 or WF6 line. Western style Cigar grip and a nicely figured piece of walnut in the reel seat set this rod apart. Outstanding medium trout rod.  Very smooth and delicate delivery and an easy action make Gary's rods a strong favorite. According to build records currently being compiled for an upcoming book on Gary and his rods, this particular rod was the first rod built using a lighter, more delicate set of tapers he worked up for this model. It truly has a lovely feel to it. N/M.  2850.00.

13024. JENKINS ROD CO. 7'0". GA70L-112. 2/2. #3/4. 3.2 oz. Medium/Fast Dry Fly. Mortised Cherry N/S S/B. Translucent Light Honey. Varnished. The Jenkins rod has been hand crafted in Denver since 1960 by both Charlie and Steve Jenkins, father and son. Charlie retired in the late 1990's when Steve took over full responsibility for the work. I've always been an admirer of the Jenkins rod, partly because of the magnificent way it performs and partly because of its simple beauty. This rod truly exceeds on both counts. The action of this lightest of the models is perfect for a DT3/WF4 or TT3 line and the rod shows lovely Blonde cane color set off by the Honey wraps, bright ferrules and impeccable varnish work. Immediately puts one in mind of a lovely classic Garrison rod. The reel seat is beautifully mortised Cherry, a Jenkins trade-mark, with a handsome set of bright N/S cap and ring hardware. Comes in the cloth bag and brass capped aluminum case. Just Built. BRAND NEW. 1700.00

19976. LEONARD - MAXWELL PROTOTYPE. 7'0". Model 38DF-5. 2/3. #5. 3.5 oz. Medium/Fast. Curly Maple N/S S/B. Translucent Tan. Varnished. Made in 1981 by Tom Maxwell as part of the development of rod tapers and to test out new wrap colors at Leonard. Prototype rods from any maker are rare and these special Maxwell Leonards are certainly no exception. In fact, it is believed there are fewer than 20 LEONARD- MAXWELL PROTOTYPE RODS IN EXISTENCE. This one was built to test beefed up 38H tapers by moving the model up to a 5 weight rod. I must confess it is one of the nicest casting short rods for a #5 line I've ever cast. Kudos to Tom. It is marked with the special serial number 495P in Maxwell's hand. Built with a medium fast dry fly action, the rod casts beautifully and best with a Triangle Taper 5. The rod finish is impeccable. Everything is in outstanding fishing condition. One tip suffered a node crack at the factory when built and it was given a minor repair overwrap to make it sound again. (Visible on the middle tip in photo). At that point the rod was treated to a factory replacement tip, so the rod has THREE matching tips. Maxwell Leonards are very scarce and difficult to find in nearly perfect condition. Add the value of a one-of-a-kind prototype with THREE TIPS and you can readily appreciate the significance of this rod to the Leonard devotee. E. 3950.00.

12987. LEONARD. 7'6". Duracane 765. 2/2. #4/5. 3-1/2 oz. Medium /Fast. Butternut S/B. Tan. Impregnated. Tip action, Maxwell made and lettered circa 1979/80. SN 353. Impregnated rod for a DT4/WF5 line. Everything correct and original including the bag and rod case. This rod has barely been fished and shows only the slightest bit of use. Scarce Leonard rod model. N/M. $1600.00   SOLD

12952.  LEONARD - H. L.  8'0".  Model 40H.  2/2.  #6/7.  4-14 & 4-3/8 oz.  Medium to Med/Fast.  Butternut S/L.  Red.  Varnished.  A lovely, custom made,  mid 1970's Ted Simroe & Bob Taylor built Leonard in the  very popular 40H model. This rod was built with two different strength tips, thus the two different rod weights recorded on the case label. The standard weight tip is factory recommended for a #7 line and it casts with a smooth medium/fast action when used with a WF7, but slows to a more gentle and accurate medium action when treated to a DT6 line.  The lighter tip is 10 thousandths thinner in the middle, (a visible difference) and is designed to work correctly with a DT5 or a WF6 line, which indeed, it does. Fished almost not at all and still in nearly new condition. Serial #2584 and built approximately in 1974. In the original bag and labeled brass capped Leonard case. This is a very special Leonard rod.  N/M.  2200.00.

13019. LEONARD - H. L. 9'6”. Mills Standard. 3/2. #5/6. 5 oz. Medium. Full N/S S/B w/ side rails. Antique Gold with full Intermediates. Varnished. This Victorian Era Leonard rod is from Calcutta cane with many intermediate wraps. All sections are straight, undamaged and full length and all thirteen guides, including the stripper, are loose ring type; (the guide rings are brass and the saddles are nickel silver). The ferrules and reel seat are nickel silver. The female ferrule on the butt section has a soldered seam and machined welt. The other ferrules match it in design but are seamless. The reel seat is inscribed, " Standard-Mills & Son, Makers, N.Y." It is a very delicate rod with a modern medium action for a DT5/WF6 line The cork handle is made up of both Ό" and 3/8" cork rings, is 4 3/4" long and 3/4" in diameter at the thickest part, "quite smallish" as was common to Leonard rods of the era., but then, maybe it was made for a woman's hand. The tip-tops are 3/64" ID. Fine and delicate is the correct description of this magnificent rod. It comes with its original bamboo tip tube and heavy cloth outer sack that is in good condition. The rod has been professionally restored to exacting original specifications and the work is breathtaking. This rod will light up any significant rod collection. M/R. $895.00

12961.  nigro - tom.  7'6".  Quadrate.  2/2.  #5.  3-5/8 oz.  Medium/Fast.  Figured Walnut N/S S/B.  Dark Brown.  Varnished.  Tom Nigro of Spring Creek Rods has been making finely crafted rods on a part-time basis for a number of years in central PA. His rods are based on the pinpoint accuracy, delicacy and quality of craft needed to perform well on Pa's famed spring creeks and to satisfy some really tough local customers who Expect perfection in performance and Demand it in appearance.  That both of these tough requirements have long since been met and actually exceeded is borne out by the fact the Tom is not only still here, "doing his thing", but is now doing it on a full time basis.! Tom continues to build both six and four sided rods in the most desired lengths and line weights and does so using proprietary tapers that have been torture tested on Spring Creek, the Letort, Fishing Creek and host of other Limestone and Freestone streams in that magic area of PA. We are pleased to add Tom's efforts to our offering of fine quality bamboo fly rods. This incredibly pretty fly rod is simply magnificent and a pure delight in every respect. Its action is a perfect medium to medium/fast with a fine tip perfectly balanced to a powerful butt section providing the caster with control, distance and finesse all wrapped up in the same rod. This is the basic Eastern trout rod  and if it were your only cane rod, it would never disappoint you on performance. At only 3-3/8 ounces with a Beautifully striated and toned figured Walnut seat and N/S hardware, it is as light in the hand and performs as well as some of the best known Quads with a 3 to 5 years wait for delivery and triple the price.  A perfect length for nearly any trouting situation, the rod is deeply flamed to a dark brown tone and is simply gorgeous! Add a  proprietary turned N/S reel seat with knurled trim , and a  Thomas style nose-check and ring-type fly keeper. The N/S ferrules are bright, the standard Cigar grip is totally comfortable and the Dark Brown wraps are nicely understated and add a delightful touch to an already classy fly rod. Provided in a cloth bag and brass capped aluminum case.  BRAND NEW.  1395.00.     SOLD

12976. TARANSKY - NICHOLAS  A.   6'0". Monaro - Tea Stick Collector's Grade Rod. 2/2. #3/4. 3.5 oz. Fast. Bamboo Dual Ring. Translucent Bronze. Oil Impregnated/Waxed. When Nick Taransky first contacted me about his rods, I was quite impressed by his top quality work and immediately wanted to bring his rods to our US customers. Little did I know, just how much rod building talent was tucked away in his little corner of Australia! He has just sent me this incredibly well done work of art that throws a DT3 or WF4 line a country mile and is only 6 feet long and less than 4 ounces "heavy". Why such a "heavy" rod weight for such a small rod? Look at the handle and reel seat! They are formed out of six strips of bamboo with a pronounced grip swell and put the extra weight right where it belongs, in your hand! Rather than fitting a cork grip and wooden reel seat, a large butt swell was used to form the grip and reel seat. This required double building the butt section of the cane. The under grip and swell area was then hollow fluted before glue-up to retain a light feel of the rod in the hand. The seat was turned down to accommodate slide bands, and flamed/scorched for additional character. The rod was finished with a hexagonal butt plate, and clear wraps to maximize the visibility of the cane beneath. A honey agate stripping guide reflects the flamed color of the bamboo. It is magnificent to look at, but it is even more comfortable and practical than you would ever expect and the rod balances perfectly with a small Hardy Flyweight or Featherweight reel. It is fast and responsive, throws a DT3 line with a 12" loop, exactly where you aimed it! Feels as good as 20 feet as is does at 60.AND weighs LESS than 4 ounces. The Monaro Series is Nick's Best Rod. This rod is built from a single culm of bamboo with MIRROR tips. Fitted with a perfectly formed, six-piece grip and reel seat (all double-built AND hollow-fluted to reduce weight) of bamboo that is actually an extension of the six strips that form the rod butt. The butt cap is oxidized N/S in a hex-shape and I still haven't figured out how he got those two N/S oxidized reel seat rings in place! The ferrules are beautifully oxidized with a bamboo ferrule plug for the female. As if there was not enough detail work lavished on this rod, Nick decided to house it in it's very own slim-diameter, hand made, six-sided wood rod case formed of alternating Jarrah and Spotted Gum strips. This gorgeous piece of work is housed in a cloth outer sack that matches the cloth rod bag within. If you are impressed by top quality work in a totally unique rod, a faster rod action, very tight loops, and significant distance coupled to fine-tipped accuracy, and enjoy the delightful lightweight feel of shorter bamboo fly rods and appreciate a dark flamed bamboo finish, then this is the rod for you! This is a one-of-a-kind rod built to expose as much bamboo to the eye as possible. This rod was made to celebrate Tonkin Cane, or "Tea Stick" Bamboo (as it is known in China) as a rod making material., hence the "Tea Stick" moniker. Sure to prove a wise investment as Nick's reputation for fine work continues to reach more and more bamboo fans. BRAND NEW. 2795.00.

12975. TARANSKY - NICHOLAS A. 7'7". Monaro - Down Under 21. 3/2. #5/6. 4 oz. Medium/ Fast. Brown Mallee Burl. Dark Green. Varnished. If you are impressed by top quality work, a faster rod action, very tight loops, and significant distance coupled to fine-tipped accuracy, and enjoy the delightful lightweight feel of shorter bamboo fly rods and appreciate a dark flamed bamboo finish, then this is the rod for you! The rivers in Australia and New Zealand are gin clear, the trout are huge, smart, spooky as hell, and the ultimate challenge! It is pretty near impossible to "sneak up on 'em", so you'd better be able to cast 40 to 60 feet with ease and accuracy, even with a 5 weight line!. That is precisely what Australian Rod Maker, Nick Taransky designed this delightful dry fly rod to do with the help of an E. C. Powell taper. It is fast and responsive, throws a DT5 line or WF6 line 60 feet with a 12" loop, exactly where you aimed it! The Monaro Series is Nick's Best rod. This rod is built from a single culm of bamboo with MIRROR tips and a lovely striated Agate stripper. Chapman. This Monaro Series rod is fitted to a Brass capped aluminum rod case and poplin cotton rod bag. Tremendous style and value here at an outstanding price. BRAND NEW. 2495.00.
