This very high quality, delicate action rod from the late 1800's was just restored to as new condition. The reel seat is stamped "J. G. Landman - Maker - Brooklyn NY" on three lines in a stylized border. The top, ferrules and reel seat are hand made from nickel silver with soldered seams. The ends off the male ferrules are closed with soldered brass disks. The cork rings in the gentle cigar handle are 1/4" wide. The American twist, original black snake guides were handmade and were cleaned polished and re-oxidized to preserve them. All of the silk wraps were replaced in an exact match for silk color, size, location and pattern. The rod was re-varnished, hand rubbed and waxed. The butt section is 6 inches short from the original 8'6" length and the action has profited from the reconstruction. It is perfect. Landman's rods are of the highest quality and this model when found unmarked is constantly mistaken for the Thomas and Edwards rod described and pictured in Keane's book, since it is virtually the same configuration and the two are very difficult to tell apart unless marked. This rod although nearly 100 years old is vibrant and ready to fish. It has a fine, delicate tip, modern tapers and is a perfect trouting rod with a DT4 or WF5 line.        13191. CALVIELLO - MARCELO. 7'0". CF704BP. 2/2. #4. 3.5 oz. Fast Dry Fly. Birdseye Maple rev S/L. Golden Bronze t/ Dark Brown. Varnished. This rod was built for me personally in 2009 as demonstrator rod and has only been lawn cast. You'll be the first to baptize it in water. Marcelo's own unique tapers and the BOBFS give his rods an increased power transfer, since the action is uninterrupted from the grip to the tip. Marcelo's rods are immediately impressive when you notice the lack of metal ferrules joining the rod sections. Designing rods using the Bamboo on Bamboo Ferrule System helps reduce the "dead spot" often found in rods that are conventionally ferruled, allowing for a smoother power transfer when casting. But what truly impresses is the performance of the rods based on taper designs that allow for accurate fly placement, easy smooth casts, impressive feel and delightful balance. As if that were not enough Marcelo rounds everything off with expert finish work and attention to detail, lovely rod fittings and beautiful brass work on his rod cases. M. $2100.00.

Fine-tipped action casts well in-close and will be an absolute blast in headwater streams. Appears unused. In the original cloth bag and brass capped case. Really good buy here.   M.   $625.00.

13316. DIVINE. 7'6". FAIRY TROUT. 2/2. #4. 3 oz. Medium Dry Fly. Cherry N/S S/B. Jasper t/Red w/Jasper Intermediates. Varnished.             13250. EDEN CANE. 7'0". SPECIAL MODEL 704-2. 2/2. #4. 2.8 oz. Medium/Fast. Kurly Koa U&D/L N/S S/B. Clear Tan t/Brown. Varnished. NODELESS CONSTRUCTION. All the weak bamboo nodes are removed in every Eden Cane rod. With these weak spots joint scarfed out of the blank and replaced by an additional 18% solid bamboo power fiber, the results are nothing short of amazing! Since rods made without nodes are inherently faster and stronger than their conventional counterparts, taper designs were evolved to take full advantage of this lighter blank-to-line size ratio. The results of all this labor intensive effort have become legend. Eden Cane rods simply outperform conventionally built rods, period! This first of the 2010 rods is of dark Cognac color bamboo with translucent Clear Tan t/Brown wraps and full Premium Grade Cork in the grip offset by two decorative strips of bamboo inlaid into the grip, a SPECIAL EC trademark feature. The reel seat is of Kurly Koa and has the unique design feature of a slide band arrangement that allows you to mount the reel in either an up or down-locking position to fine tune the in-hand balance of the rod. The signature wrap is a unique single thread spiral wrap, done to call attention to the unique single thread wrap tippings in the center of each guide wrap! The observer cannot help notice the attention to detail lavished on every Eden Cane rod. The wraps and varnish sparkle and are about perfect. The overall aesthetic of this rod is masterful understatement. The stripper is Agatine with Snake Brand snake guides. The N/S Super-Z style ferrules are oxidized as is the N/S seat hardware which features another exclusive Eden cane original trademark feature, namely the Up AND Down locking Cap & Ring seat that carries the EC logo engraved in the Butt cap. This unique seat design allows for the reel placement position to be changed to suit your casting style. The swelled butt is offset at the grip by an oxidized N/S nose check which brackets the magnificent Premium Grade cork Standard Cigar grip, embellished by two distinctive inlaid bamboo strips and finished off at the rear with a matching ring of the Kurly Koa reel seat wood., unique to this Special Model rod. Details abound everywhere, and include "mirror image" tips that are dot-marked 1 & 2. The taper of this rod is designed to produce an accurate, pleasant and delicate casting action equally suited to wet or dry fly applications. It is built to place a DT4 or TT4 line wherever you want it, with no effort on your part. It does that, easily, yet somehow it retains the ability to present the fly softly and with grace, and protect ultra fine tippets, a lovely combination. Provided in a cloth rod bag and a first quality true Brass-appointed Black Aluminum rod case carrying the Freestone, (EC's parent Co.) label. Eden Cane rods remain the epitome of the bamboo rod art, perform beyond expectations and consistently re-enforce the adage that "quality never disappoints". BRAND NEW. $3950.00

13328. EDEN CANE. 7'0". MODEL 210-Y. 2/2. #3. 3.0 oz.. Medium/Fast. Koa U/L & D/L N/S S/B. Clear t/Cinnamon. Varnished. NODELESS CONSTRUCTION. This rod is of medium Caramel color bamboo with translucent Clear/Tan t/Cinnamon wraps treated to single-turn decorative center-wrap tag magnificently and perfectly done, and with a Burled Koa wood in the seat. The butt, of course, is gently swelled and decorated with a hand-inked nymph under the perfect varnish. Details abound everywhere, and include the single thread edgings at the guides and signature wraps.. The Model 210Y rod taper is based on a proprietary set of tapers designed expressly for the small stream fishing requirements demanded in Japan for Yamame and on brook trout filled Headwater streams everywhere. It boasts an accurate, pleasant and deliberate action equally suited to small wet or dry fly applications. It is designed to place a Wulff TT3 wherever you want it, with no effort on your part. It does that, easily, yet somehow it retains the ability to present the fly softly and with grace, either in-close (10 ft.) or far-off (50 ft.), a lovely and difficult to achieve combination. 13104Eden.jpg (48620 bytes)       13104. EDEN CANE. 8'6". SBS MODEL 8619-12 SALMON/BASS/STEELHEAD. 3/2. #8. 5.9 oz. Medium/Fast. Maple Burl U/L N/S S/L. Honey Translucent t/Cinnamon. Varnished. Steelhead Killer, Now built only to custom order. This rod model had been long awaited as it went through the design and testing process. Some pretty fussy outdoor writers and fly fishing authors were involved in this rod's creation and testing. The rod has been tested by fire and has stood up to all manner of hard use with remarkable results. It has handled a lot of large and very hard fighting Bass and Steehead and Salmon and never once faltered in almost two years of brutal testing. A compliment to the perfectly designed and tweaked tapers that cast a WF8 beyond perfection and have the power to handle big fish with ease. A beautiful Blond colored bamboo rod with honey lemon translucent wraps and a gorgeous marbleized Honey Burled Maple wood reel seat. The stripper is Clear Agatine with hard chrome snakes. The N/S Super-Z style ferrules are bright as is the N/S seat hardware featuring an up-locking, mortised screw lock seat on a striking piece of burled Impregnated Maple. The Western style Cigar grip features a front winding check at the nose of Nickel Silver bringing a superb finishing touch to a modern masterpiece. NODELESS CONSTRUCTION. All offending nodes are removed in construction of every Eden Cane rod. The results are nothing short of amazing. The action of this exciting rod is one of the smoothest I've ever cast in a heavyweight cane rod. It is designed to punch a WF8 line and a big, wind resistant fly into a breeze, yet, it is beautifully balanced and does not hammer the caster. This rod seems tailor made for the Triangle Taper 8 Line and Canadian, Icelandic and Russian salmon rivers. In cloth rod bag and custom made hard leather rod case by Arne Mason Unused. M. 3450.00.

13149Edwards.jpg (35717 bytes)         13149.   EDWARDS - E.W. & SONS.     7'11".   Edwards Special.    3/2.   #5/6.   4.25 oz.   Fast.  Walnut. S/L.   Brown.   Varnished.   This E.W. Edwards & Sons rod was made Circa 1935-40 in Connecticut. It is a classic example of the very desirable, "Golden Years", quality-built Edwards rods and remains in clean, basically original condition. The inscription "Edwards Special" is written in script on the shaft in White ink. All the guides including the red agate stripper and the silk wraps are in fine condition and are original. The original varnish remains, but has been given a recent overcoat to freshen it up. Just the stripper wrap and the two male ferrule wraps are redone, as well. One tip has had a short section scarf repaired in at the tip to extend it to original full length, action and taper. The tip-tops are new replacements.  The cloth bag and the aluminum rod case are both original. The "Special" part of this rod is the fact that it was custom built an inch less than 8 feet with a perfect dry fly action for a DT5/WF6 line. The action of this rod is quick and quite smooth, just lovely with the fine dry fly tips. It is delicate enough to protect fine tippets which gives the rod more universal capabilities. Edward's medium cane color is extraordinarily handsome and nicely complimented by the medium brown color wraps. An unusual Edwards in sound, ready to fish, condition.    E.    $1150.00.

Ultra scarce size and configuration in this classic Hardy C. C. De France model made in 1958. Most of the rods in this model series were made in two piece design and are considered one of the best casting performers of all the Hardy rod models. Lovely to look at with its gold wraps and intermediates, oxidized N/S ferrules with Walnut ferrule plug, plus the agate stripper guide, agate tip-tops and reverse twist snake guides. Comfortably fish-able with its cigar grip and cork slide band seat.         13290. HEDDON - SHAKESPEARE. 7'6". REYNARD MODEL 1232. 3/2. #5. 4.25 oz. Medium/Fast. Reverse N/S S/L. Orange t/ Black. Varnished. It's a fairly well known fact that Shakespeare never actually built any of their various bamboo rod models. These were made for them by the likes of Heddon, South Bend and Montague. This model was built for Shakespeare by Heddon and is equivalent in quality to a Heddon Model 14 or 17. The only thing not original to the rod is the replaced full nickel Silver Reel Seat which is actually a working Goodwin Granger seat and is so marked. The rod retains everything else as original including the oval Shakespeare Decal and "1232 - 7-1/2' " inked on the shaft. Fitted with a Red Agate stripper. It is ready to fish and will give a lifetime or two of dependable service. The rod has one of the sweetest medium/fast actions for a DT5F you'll ever experience and is a prize for even the most particular bamboo fan. The cloth bag and aluminum case are original with the correct paper label intact. While this very rare rod model is certainly a viable collectible, its true value is as a superior fishing tool.       E.      $950.00.       SOLD

Delightful with a WF9 line. The rod remains in excellent condition, having seen only light fishing use with the ability to lay out and entire fly line. Unsurpassed for dropping a big bushy bug against a distant log or lily pad, without dropping the back-cast and slapping the water or hanging up behind you. This rod was never made in any significant numbers by Leonard and remains one of the most elusive of all the Leonard models.       13322. ORVIS. 7'0". BATTENKILL. 2/2. #5. 3.5 oz. Medium/Fast. Batt Seat. Brown. Impregnated. When fished using a WF5 line the 7 foot Battenkill model is one of the sweetest of the Jordan era rods, especially these earliest ones like this serial #14928 rod made in October of 1953 by George Reid and Cal Skinner. Casts best with a WF5 and flies from #12 on down and fine tippets down to 6X. This rod shows well cared for use and remains in almost excellent fishing condition. This beautifully balanced bamboo rod is a very collectible little piece, made so by its rarity. Consider that the 7 foot model was offered for about as long as the 7'6" model, it lost out in the popularity contest due to its shorter length. And so, the 7'6" rods were built more than 20 to one over the seven footers. These little buggers are rare! This one has the original aluminum rod case with paper label and factory cloth bag. Solid collectible. Great fishing rod. VG. $650.00.

Schroeder puts me in mind of a Lyle Dickerson Model 761510 in every way imaginable, thus my nomenclature for the rod model, with all due respect to Mr. Schroeder. Wonderfully balanced action for a #4/5 line. It cast best for me with a DT4, but had no trouble taming a WF5 line either, so take your pick. Custom built with a Tiger Maple reel seat and Ferrule Plugs, Swelled Butt, carbide stripper, two-up node spacing, fine Mirror tips, perfect workmanship and finish, and very smart looking, gleaming varnish. This is probably the most desirable of the ultra rare Dickerson models and is considered by some to be his best 7-1/2' action.                   12976. TARANSKY - NICHOLAS  A.    6'0".    Monaro MODEL.   Tea Stick PRESENTATION Grade Rod.    2/2. #3/4. 3.5 oz. Fast. Bamboo Dual Ring. Translucent Bronze. Oil Impregnated/Waxed. When Nick Taransky first contacted me about his rods, I was quite impressed by his top quality work and immediately wanted to bring his rods to our US customers. Little did I know, just how much rod building talent was tucked away in his little corner of Australia! He has just sent me this incredibly well done work of art that throws a DT3 or WF4 line a country mile and is only 6 feet long and less than 4 ounces "heavy". Why such a "heavy" rod weight for such a small rod? Look at the handle and reel seat! They are formed out of six strips of bamboo with a pronounced grip swell and put the extra weight right where it belongs, in your hand! Rather than fitting a cork grip and wooden reel seat, a large butt swell was used to form the grip and reel seat. This required double building the butt section of the cane. The under grip and swell area was then hollow fluted before glue-up to retain a light feel of the rod in the hand. The seat was turned down to accommodate slide bands, and flamed/scorched for additional character. The rod was finished with a hexagonal butt plate, and clear wraps to maximize the visibility of the cane beneath. A honey agate stripping guide reflects the flamed color of the bamboo. It is magnificent to look at, but it is even more comfortable and practical than you would ever expect and the rod balances perfectly with a small Hardy Flyweight or Featherweight reel. It is fast and responsive, throws a DT3 line with a 12" loop, exactly where you aimed it! Feels as good as 20 feet as is does at 60.AND weighs LESS than 4 ounces. The Monaro Series is Nick's Best Rod. This rod is built from a single culm of bamboo with MIRROR tips. Fitted with a perfectly formed, six-piece grip and reel seat (all double-built AND hollow-fluted to reduce weight) of bamboo that is actually an extension of the six strips that form the rod butt. The butt cap is oxidized N/S in a hex-shape and I still haven't figured out how he got those two N/S oxidized reel seat rings in place! The ferrules are beautifully oxidized with a bamboo ferrule plug for the female. As if there was not enough detail work lavished on this rod, Nick decided to house it in it's very own slim-diameter, hand made, six-sided wood rod case formed of alternating Jarrah and Spotted Gum strips. This gorgeous piece of work is housed in a cloth outer sack that matches the cloth rod bag within. If you are impressed by top quality work in a totally unique rod, a faster rod action, very tight loops, and significant distance coupled to fine-tipped accuracy, and enjoy the delightful lightweight feel of shorter bamboo fly rods and appreciate a dark flamed bamboo finish, then this is the rod for you! This is a one-of-a-kind rod built to expose as much bamboo to the eye as possible. This rod was made to celebrate Tonkin Cane, or "Tea Stick" Bamboo (as it is known in China) as a rod making material., hence the "Tea Stick" moniker. Sure to prove a wise investment as Nick's reputation for exceptionally fine work continues to reach more and more bamboo fans.   BRAND NEW.    $1895.00.

13293. TARANSKY - NICHOLAS A. 7'3". MONARO - DRIGGS. 3/2. #4/5. 3 oz. Fast Parabolic. Red Mallee Burl N/S S/B. Goldenrod. Varnished. If you are impressed by top quality work, a faster, yet fuller working rod action, very tight loops, and significant distance coupled to fine-tipped accuracy, and enjoy the delightful lightweight feel of shorter bamboo fly rods and appreciate a dark flamed bamboo finish, with ferrules and hardware set off by decorative, hand-done, metal engraving, then this is the rod for you! The rivers in Tasmania and New Zealand are gin clear, the trout are huge, smart, spooky as hell, and the ultimate challenge! It is pretty near impossible to "sneak up on 'em", so you'd better be able to cast 40 to 60 feet with ease and accuracy, even with a 5 weight line! That is precisely what Australian Rod Maker, Nick Taransky designed this delightful dry fly rod to do with the help of an Paul Young Driggs taper. It is fast and responsive, throws a DT4 or WF5 line 60 feet with a 12" loop, exactly where you aimed it! The Monaro Series is Nick's Best rod. This rod is built from a single culm of bamboo with MIRROR tips and a lovely Agate stripper. Fitted with a beautifully figured Red Mallee Burl wood seat with bright N/S S/B hardware and a classic Western Cigar shape grip. When Nick Taransky first contacted me about his rods, I was impressed enough by his top quality work to want to present him with the ultimate challenge. "Can you build me a FAST action three-weight?" 'No problem.' "In an 8 foot three-piece rod?" 'Sure!' came the reply. "Hah!" I remember thinking, "I've NEVER seen a truly fast, dry fly action 3 weight in a 3-piece eight footer from anybody! Plenty of medium and slow action rods around, but never a classic dry fly type action! Especially in my favorite configuration, three-piece!" Well! He just went and nailed it! This was a rod built by hobby builder Todd Webb of Montana a number of years ago. Todd did some interesting things with this rod giving it a set of 8013 tapers to fire a DT5 line perfectly. Next he built the blank using node-less construction reducing rod weight and adding power. lastly, he did some innovative ferrule work using composite slides on the ferrules virtually eliminating future wear from oxidation. All-in-all an intriguing piece of serious work built in a single tip rod. Blonde color flawless can with superb node removal work. The rod is not marked as to maker, thus the low price. Pity that Todd never continued his work. It has seen no real use and remains in near new condition. The action is powerful and fast, sure to please a fussy caster. With original bag and aluminum case. N/M. $495.00.
