13735. CIEMIEGA - TOM.   7'2"   MODEL 725 DRIGGS. 2/2. #5. 4.0 oz. Fast Semi-Parabolic. Burled Walnut D/L N/S S/B. Bronze t/Black. Varnished. Our Bamboo world has recently lost one of its own. Rod maker Tom Ciemiega passed away in 2010 and the fishing world lost a devout bamboo master who cut his bamboo teeth in the Young Rod shop in Detroit back in the 1950's. Those years of direct contact with both Paul and Bob Summers left and indelible mark on a man who came full circle building his own parabolic action influenced fly rods. Tom's personal fly casting and fishing experience over more than 60 years influenced his development of taper modifications loosely based on the designs of Paul himself. This lightly Flamed, Swelled Butt rod has a Semi-Parabolic action that is powerful and fast, totally reminiscent of the delightful Young Driggs, one of the best Young light-line dry fly rods. Thanks to the addition of a beautifully Swelled butt to the proven Driggs based tapers. this rod is even more delicate, feels real good in the hand and has a power reserve that belies its light weight. It loads well in-close with a DT 5 and fishes beautifully with smaller flies and fine tippets, but is capable of pin-point accuracy up to 60 feet if required. It truly casts like a dream as do all of Tom's designs. The snakes are black, the ferrules are oxidized Super Z style and the grip is a standard Cigar shape. The reel seat is a down locking morticed slide band seat with bright hardware over a beautiful piece of hand selected Burled Walnut. The finish is lovely and the rod will make its owner proud. If a body were limited to only one bamboo fly rod, this one will do, nicely. Appears unused with the original plastic still on the grip. This beautifully constructed rod has a quick and powerful dry fly action for a DT4 or WF5 line. It is capable of pin-point accuracy at 60 feet if required, but fishes like a dream at normal distances. Although shorter, this rod is somewhat reminiscent of the PY Driggs, a very popular Young model. Like the Driggs, it feels real good in the hand and has a power reserve that belies its light weight. The snakes are black, the ferrules are oxidized Super Z style and the grip is a standard Cigar shape. The reel seat is an Up-locking morticed slide band seat with bright hardware over a beautiful piece of Burled Red Maple. The finish is lovely and the rod will make its owner proud. Cloth bag and aluminum case.      M.     $1250.00.

13785.    HEDDON -  ED CUMMINGS   8'0".     MODEL #115 GREENLEAF.    3/2. #5. 4-1/4 oz. Medium. Green Tenite U/L S/L. Black t/ Gold. Varnished. It is well known the Ed Cummings private labeled much of the goods he sold out of his Flint Michigan Tackle Shop, including a production model bamboo fly rod or two made for him by H-I. BUT, here comes a much higher grade fly rod than those, private lableled for him by HEDDON and unlike any other Heddon model ever, in appearance. This rod carries a GREEN Color Tenite seat, a Green tint in the original varnish (produced by mixing ground MALACHITE DUST in the first coat of varnish), Black Beauty color wraps, oxidized ferrules and the butt inscription reads "#115 - GREENLEAF", accompanied by the Fish Decal stating Cummings name and location. The light ferrule size with the accompanying delicate trout action tips on this rod make a very smooth casting medium action rod for a TT5 fly line. The original varnish remains, but was give a "refresh" overcoat which is a bit crazed from age, but, it is still hard and functional and the rod totally fishable as is. To preserve the unusual appearance of this unique specimen, I would suggest the next owner might want to have the rod professionally "surface rubbed out" and recoated to protect the integrity of the original finish and preserve the uniqueness of this extremely rare Heddon Model. Comes in the original bag and the case is a correct Peerless aluminum case. Utterly delightful light action dry fly rod. Very desirable rod model with potential strong collector interest due to its rarity. The grip has some slight surface roughness, but it is all original.and ready to fish.      G-VG.      $695.00.

13777.     HEDDON.    8'0".    Model 10 BLUE WATERS.     2/2.    #4/5.    4 oz.    Medium/Fast Dry Fly. Black Tenite S/L. Black. Varnished. The much desired two-piece "FEATHERWEIGHT" series rods are rarely encounterd these days. This is a ready to fish MODEL 10 Heddon. This rod has a Size 0 ferrule. The light ferrule size with the accompanying delicate trout action tips is one of the most desirable fishing models of the Heddon rods. This rod is in very good original condition with the varnish in excellent shape and with the original wraps being given a refreshing overcoat along the way. Hardly a perfect cosmetic specimen for the fussy collector, but just an outstanding, light line fishing rod. This rod is ideally suited for a DT4 or WF5 line and casts either one like a dream. Comes in the original bag with the bag tag there and the case is a correct Peerless aluminum case. Utterly delightful light action dry fly rod. Very desirable rod model with potential strong collector interest due to its rarity. The grip has some slight surface roughness, but it is all original.and ready to fish.      VG. $595.00.

13757.        HEDDON.    8'0.   MODEL 13 THOROBRED.    3/2. #5/6. 4-3/4 oz. Fast. Marbelized Tenite U/L S/L. Red t/Black. Varnished. Exceptionally smooth casting, faster action fly rod that is perfect for a DT5 or WF6 line. This is an earlier rod with the name "Heddon" inscribed in a spiral on the rod shaft. It was expertly refinished at Orvis and is ready to go fishing. All components on the rod are original and have been expertly restored including the very unusual UPLOCKING reel seat, not often seen on the Heddon rods. The wrap and varnish work is better than the original with the original red Agate Stripper and factory lettering preserved on the shaft. The rod is straight, ferrules are perfect and the reel seat works correctly, so the rod needs nothing to fish, except water. One tip is 3/4" short from a tip-top reset with no effect on the rods casting capabilities. The originality is gone, but so is that part of the price. Really Good 8 foot Heddon rods have become very scarce and are glorious fishing tools. Comes with a replacement, hand sewn cloth bag and the original 1930's rod case.              NM/R.     $450.00.

13878. HEDDON. 8'0". MODEL 17. 3/2. #4/5. 4.1 oz. Medium Fast Dry Fly. Black Marbleized S/L. Varnished. Black t/Orange. The famed Heddon Black Beauty in the increasingly hard to find 8' length with the light action 1-3/4 ferrule size. Fine tipped rod is perfect with a DT4 or WF5 line. A scarce model in extra fine, completely original condition. The rod has a small hook-dig repair over-wrap near the tip-top, (visible in photo) with no effect on performance, otherwise the rod is in superb, ready to fish condition. The cloth rod bag and the aluminum rod case are original with the original factory labels. The rod case is missing its cap. The varnish was re-coated many years ago and is in perfect fishing condition and the rod is tight, straight and sound in every respect. These rods are becoming increasingly scarce and even harder to find in this "ready to go fishing" kind of condition. Sweet rod here. E. $450.00.

13879. HEDDON. 8'6". MODEL 35 DELUXE. 3/2. #5/6. 4-3/8 oz. Medium/Fast. FULL N/S D/L S/L. Varnished. Golden Bronze t/Black. Original, early 1930's higher grade Heddon rod with early full Nickel Silver Down-locking Reel Seat, Half-Wells Grip, drilled to pattern as promoted and popularized by Heddon Pro Caster MARVIN HEDGE in the 1930's. Very nice action with finer tips will fish beautifully. The rod was re-coated and the wraps are original and the varnish is bright. Winds and guides are superb having seen very little use. All original markings are in place. Comes in replacement cloth bag and aluminum case. Casts beautifully with a DT5 or WF6 fly Line. In excellent plus condition.    E.     $395.00.

13876. HEDDON. 8'6". WESTFIELD RIVER. 3/2. 6. 4-5/8 oz. Medium/Fast. Brown Tenite U/L S/L. Varnished. Bronze t/ Red. The 1930's, 2-1/2 ferrule sized, Heddon model that favors the Triangle Taper WF6F line so very well. It really sings with that fly line. Just professionally restored to as new condition. It has the scarce trademark brown marbleized Bakelite UP-lock seat with bright hardware stamped with the Pat # 1624052. Issued April 12, 1927 to Charles and Jack T. Welch and assigned to Heddon. The nickel silver ferrules and the swelled butt add a lot of class to a great classic rod. The varnish is bright and perfect. The butt is lettered "WESTFIELD RIVER" on a single flat and is the original lettering perfectly preserved. It is believed this model was made expressly for the Clapp & Treat store in Hartford, CT. The action is sweet and the rod is a superb caster with a DT6 line, too. This rod is a prize for the angler looking for a sweet casting 'everyday' rod. Comes with a replacement cloth bag original Heddon branded aluminum case. All in superb condition. M/R. $475.00.

The TONKA SERIES were H-I's best quality two piece rod models with a fish-able dry fly action. This rod has two differently tapered Factory Tips, One is light action-ed and really sweet with a 4 weight fly line. The second is beefier through out and needs a DT5 or WF6 line to perform well. Yet, both tips match for cane color and finish work hat appears to be factory work. The shaft markings "TONKA QUEEN" in white ink and a perfect decal remain unsullied. The heavier tip has a long ago done, minor hook dig repair near the tip-top All sections are full length. The only modification from original is the replacement of the poor quality reel seat found on these rods with a nice Cherry Wood insert Cap and Ring seat, a definite improvement. This rod uses Gary's trademark uniquely designed Agate Stripper, the finest I've ever seen all, hand-done by Gary. The Agate insert is held in place by two independent rope knurled Nickel Silver guide frames. Altogether different and very striking! All of the snake guides are hand-made by Gary in the English reverse configuration of specially treated Stainless Steel wire that looks like Antique Bronzed Guides, but won't wear or discolor as quickly. Even the cloth bag and heavy brass capped case are wonderfully done. If workmanship speaks for itself, then this rod simply says it all. What it does with a Lee Wulff Triangle Taper 5 line would take another three paragraphs to describe. Just know, you'll be thrilled in every possible way. M. $2475.00.
