CIEMIEGA - TOM. 6'9”. Model 695. 2/2. #4/5. 3.3 oz. Fast Parabolic.
Burled Walnut N/S S/B. Bronze. Varnished. This lightly Flamed rod and has a
fast, powerful dry fly action for a DT4 or WF5 line. It is capable of pin-point accuracy at
60 feet if required, but fishes like a dream at normal distances. Somewhat
reminiscent of the Perfectionist, it feels real good in the hand and has a
power reserve that belies its light weight. The snakes are black, the
ferrules are oxidized Super Z style and the grip is a standard Cigar shape.
The reel seat is an Up or Down locking mortised slide band seat with bright
hardware over a beautiful piece of Burled Red Maple. The finish is lovely
and the rod will make its owner proud. Back in the 1950's Tom spent a part
of his teens working in and generally hanging around Paul Young's
rod shop in Detroit. Those years of direct contact with both Paul and Bob
Summers left and indelible mark on a young man who has since become an
accomplished craftsman and has now come full circle
and is offering his own Young influenced rods to bamboo aficionados. Tom's
personal fly casting and fishing experience over the past 45 years has also
strongly influenced his development of taper modifications loosely based on
the designs of Paul himself. Cloth bag and aluminum case.

Parabolic. Burled Walnut N/S S/B. Bronze t/Black. Varnished. This lightly
Flamed. Swelled Butt rod has a Parabolic action that is powerful and fast,
much like the PY Driggs rod it emulates. It loads well in-close with a DT 5
and fishes beautifully with smaller flies and fine tippets, but is capable
of pin-point accuracy up to 60 feet if required. It truly casts like a
dream. Reminiscent of the delightful Young Driggs, it is even more delicate,
feels real good in the hand and has a power reserve that belies its light
weight. The snakes are black, the ferrules are oxidized Super Z style and
the grip is a standard Cigar shape. The reel seat is a down locking mortised
slide band seat with bright hardware over a beautiful piece of hand selected
Burled Walnut. The finish is lovely and the rod will make its owner proud.

13057. ??CROSS - SOUTH BEND ?? WES JORDAN - 8-STRIP?? 7'6".
2/2.
#4/5. 4.0 oz. Medium /Fast. Tenite D/L S/L (Thread lock Seat). Green Jasper.
Varnished. This rod has been a puzzle to me since I first saw it. Some of
the earmarks of this unsigned rod point directly to the early Cross building
efforts of Wes Jordan circa the early 1920's. Other feature speak to the
Cross- South Bend venture of the late 20's, early 30's. The rod uses a black
Tenite filled Thread lock design reel seat patented by Jordan, the ferrules
are the Cross Supreme Ferrules, welted, serrated and knurled, as shown in
the 1928 catalog. The stripper is agate and the guides are bronze. The grip
is a reverse Half wells and the rod has a perfect action for a DT4 or WF5
line. All of the correct features of a South Bend rod of this vintage. Where
my dilemma lies is that this rod is of beautifully executed EIGHT-STRIP
construction, to my knowledge never offered by SB. It is well known that Wes
built 4, 6, and 8 strip rods at Cross, both single and double-built , but I
know of none that came out of South Bend. Of course, it is possible that
this rod was constructed originally by Wes as a Cross Forsyth Model in the
early 1920's and was later refurbished and upgraded at South bend in the
1930's by Wes Jordan. I am especially inclined to believe that to be the
case here, as the extra tip is a perfect taper and action match, but is of
six strip construction and clearly from South Bend. Interestingly the color
and aesthetics are a perfect match to the original, so it is clear that
someone took pains to do a correct job. I also believe the rod was
refinished at that later time, because it is wrapped with Black/Green Jasper
thread, a color not offered by SB until the mid 1930's, (about when I
calculate the re-do was done). All of that said, this rod has a sweet
middle-fast action that is a joy to cast for me with a DT4 line. The rod is
straight, tight and sound and ready to fish with no work needed. It appears
to have been well cared for since the 1930's. The cloth bag and rod case are
period replacements, I believe. A bit of a mystery that may never fully
solve out, but there is no mystery about the worth of the this rod as a
fishing tool. E. $750.00.

Medium/Slow Wet Fly. Full N/S Slide Band. Red w/Red &Black Intermediates.
Varnished. This magnificent early Divine rod is constructed of Calcutta
bamboo. It is a perfectly restored example of the famed Divine Rod" as

cork rings, waisted, welted , and knurled drawn N/S ferrules, a red agate
stripper and small silk line snake guides throughout in the reverse English
twist, Graced with a wonderfully slow medium action, incredibly fish-able

13108. DUCK - DOUGLAS J. 7'0". NO. 2127. 2/2. #4. 3. 1 oz. Medium/.
Birdseye Maple/Cork N/S S/B. Clear Honey Lemon. Varnished. Douglas Duck was
a noted high quality Texas rod maker who passed away several years ago. This
rod is marked "D.J. Duck Maker - 201E, 7' - 4, No. 2127" on the
rod shaft. Doug's Garrison replicas are truly top-notch rods with much of
the charisma found in the originals. They have become quite collectible, but
still just don't cost as much. and are a lot more amenable to being fished
on a regular basis, than are the "too valuable to fish" rods they
so beautifully emulate. This rod is a dead-on facsimile in both action and
appearance. A beautifully finished rod with a light Birds Eye Maple and cork
reel seat, bright Nickel Silver cap & ring hardware, Super-Z style
ferrules and two-up node construction. Doug's excellent wrap, finish and
detail work highlight and compliment the Cognac color of the bamboo. This
delightful handful boasts a deep working action with fine tips, (as did the
original) for a DT4 line. Comes with cloth bag and brass cap aluminum case.
Barely used. N/M. 1850.00.

13104. EDEN CANE. 8'6". SBS MODEL 8619-12 SALMON/BASS/STEELHEAD. 3/2.
#8. 5.9 oz. Medium/Fast. Maple Burl U/L N/S S/L. Honey Translucent
t/Cinnamon. Varnished. Steelhead Killer, Now built only to custom order.
This rod model had been long awaited as it went through the design and
testing process. Some pretty fussy outdoor writers and fly fishing authors
were involved in this rod's creation and testing. The rod has been tested by
fire and has stood up to all manner of hard use with remarkable results. It
has handled a lot of large and very hard fighting Bass and Steehead and
Salmon and never once faltered in almost two years of brutal testing. A
compliment to the perfectly designed and tweaked tapers that cast a WF8
beyond perfection and have the power to handle big fish with ease. A
beautiful Blond colored bamboo rod with honey lemon translucent wraps and a
gorgeous marbleized Honey Burled Maple wood reel seat. The stripper is Clear
Agatine with hard chrome snakes. The N/S Super-Z style ferrules are bright
as is the N/S seat hardware featuring an up-locking, mortised screw lock
seat on a striking piece of burled Impregnated Maple. The Western style
Cigar grip features a front winding check at the nose of Nickel Silver
bringing a superb finishing touch to a modern masterpiece. NODELESS
CONSTRUCTION. All offending nodes are removed in construction of every Eden
Cane rod. The results are nothing short of amazing. The action of this
exciting rod is one of the smoothest I've ever cast in a heavyweight cane
rod. It is designed to punch a WF8 line and a big, wind resistant fly into a
breeze, yet, it is beautifully balanced and does not hammer the caster. This
rod seems tailor made for the Triangle Taper 8 Line and Canadian, Icelandic
and Russian salmon rivers. In cloth rod bag and custom made hard leather rod
case by Arne Mason Unused. M. 3450.00.

13135. EDWARDS - QUADRATE SPIN ROD.
7'0". #4 2/1. 6 - 10#. Medium. Cork Dual Ring. Red t/Black. Varnished.
This 1950's Gene Edwards Quad demonstrates the level of craftsmanship that
the Edwards family was known for. The rod has just been professionally
restored to as original condition and is mechanically sound, straight and
tight. The rod comes in the original bag and aluminum case. The Edwards case
label is partially gone but still decipherable. Here you have a superb and
serviceable example of a scarce Four-sided bamboo spin rod from the early
days of spin fishing in the US. M/R. 375.00.

. FARLOW - SHARPE KIT ROD. 8'3". PARABOLIC. 2/1. #6. 5.3 oz. Fast
Parabolic. Walnut rev S/L w/ perm 1" butt. Red. Impregnated. The action
of this rod model is just like the famed Charles Ritz "Fario Club" model which
did more to popularize the "Full Parabolic" action in the U.S. than any
other. Blank made by Farlow/Sharpe of Scotland with a Staggered Ferrule
design that has a full working, powerful parabolic action and throws a #6
line a long way. The classic Wells style grip and up lock seat work well
together. Comes in a cloth bag and brass-capped aluminum tube. If you are
looking for a powerhouse trout or bass rod for small money that performs
well, here it is. E. $385.00.

Pend." stamping on the uplocking Nickel Silver screw lock reel seat. Wonderfully delicate in action. All sections are complete, sound and full length with excellent
ferrules and hardware. This rod is completely original underneath a professionally restored wrap and varnish job. This unmolested, classic rod is a joy to cast and will make someone an excellent light Salmon. bass or heavy trout rod. In the original cloth bag and replacement aluminum case. M/R. 495.00.

12999. HARDY. 6'10”. Phantom – Hollokona. 2/1. #5. 2-3/4 oz. Fast. Cork
S/B. Black t/Red. Varnished. Hollowbuilt by Hardy in 1965. Lovely small
stream dry fly rod. Light weight and a fast powerful action for a DT5 line
give this rod an excellent feel and casting accuracy. Made originally with
just the single tip and packed in the classic heavy cotton rod bag with
hang-tag and factory aluminum tube. All original and complete with agate
stripper and in excellent condition. E.

13020. HARDY. 8'0". The Fairchild Rod. 3/1. #5. 3-7/8 oz. .Medium. Cork
Universal S/B. Green w/full Intermediates. Varnished. This wonderful Hardy
trout rod built in 1938 clearly demonstrates the level of craftsmanship that
Hardy was famous for. The rod has has a single tip and although there is a
second tip with the rod, it does not match. Curiously, the ferrule fits and
matches, so you are all set if you choose to have another tip made for the
rod. (It is worth doing!) White Agate tip-top and matching Agate stripper.
Reverse English snakes and Walnut ferrule plugs round out the detailed
touches of this easy-casting, true medium action fly rod. The full English
intermediate wraps really set this rod off from the routine bamboo look. The
rod remains in excellent original condition throughout, in the original
cloth rod bag and a pre-war small diameter Hardy Aluminum rod case. Fitted
with a cigar grip and all cork slide band seat to take any size reel foot.
It is sweet with a DT5 line and will prove to be a joy to fish. E. $795.00

13083. HARDY. 9'6". THE FAIRCHILD ROD.
3/2. #4/5. 4-5/8 oz. Slow. All Cork UNIVERSAL S/B
Hardy Seat. Light Brown w/ Brown Intermediates.
Varnished. Made in 1921. The all-time classic Hardy rod with the highest quality build and a
sweet, slow, wet fly action for a DT4 or WF5 line. Everything on this rod is original including the Agate stripper and English reverse twist snakes. Only the tip-tops have been replaced with Perfection style tops, (better to fish with). Excellent for use a classic downstream wet fly rod, now coming back into vogue. The softness and slower action is what is needed to protect fine tippets on savage downstream strikes. The rod is in nice overall fishing condition showing only moderate use. The original varnish has darkened with age and shows a bump or two, but is still sound and ready to fish. Original bag and original aluminum rod case. Where can you find this kind of quality at this kind of price?

19992. HARDY.
12'0". SET OF THREE A. H. E. WOOD Steelhead & Salmon Rods.
3/2. #7/8/9. 12 to 13 oz. Spey action
without
Steel Center.
Cork sliding S/L seat. Chinese Red. Varnished. A magnificent set of three,
brand new condition rods patterned after the original set of rods
designed in the 1920's by A. H. E. Wood and detailed in Jock Scott's book
"Greased Line Fishing". These 3 exceptional rod models were
offered
by Hardy from
1928 to 1952, when
they were discontinued
Noted
Steelhead angler and accomplished caster, Chuck Doke special ordered these
rods built for him by Hardy in
2 complete
sets in 1965 and said it took Hardy nearly 3
years to find
bamboo of high enough quality to build the 6 rods without the Steel Rod
Center, as were the originals. (Steel rod center construction was originally
used to allow lesser quality cane to be used
in Salmon Rod
construction and still provide the power needed to cast with these rods. It
worked, but added a
lot
of unnecessary weight and interfered with the action of the rods and also
suffered delamination woes if improperly stored. The process was
eclipsed by
using double building methods). These 2 sets were completed and delivered in
1968 as attested to by their "J" series
serial number. Doke, who fished with
Stan Bogdan Alec Jackson, Syd Glasso and others fished one set and put this
set back for posterity. He said these rods can do things that no other
bamboo 2-handed rod can. Interestingly, they were designed to be able to be
used either double or single handed, thanks to the Hardy "Universal Style"
reel seats. These 3 rods are all 12 feet long
and each takes one heavier line size of double taper line, (one a 7 weight,
second an 8 weight and third a 9 weight). They are in never used, new
condition, with the original clear plastic wraps on the grips. Weights are
12-1/4 , 12-3/4 and 13-1/4 ounces respectively. Fitted with reinforced
twist-lock ferrules, clear Agate stripper guides and clear Agate tip-tops,
perfect circle bridge guides, original bag, bag tags, and sculptured aluminum
ferrule plugs. These rods represent an opportunity for their owner to preserve an important bit of angling history by owning
this set as it may now well be the only unused set of these incredible 2-hand rods
left in existence. Hardy
will no longer make these rods today, as the craftsmen who crafted these
rods 40
years ago are gone, but, if done today their cost would exceed $3500 per
copy, making this one-of-a-kind set an excellent

13112. LACEY - GARY. 7'2". ROYAL "L". 2/2. #3/4. 3.1 oz.
Medium/Fast. Mahogany N/S S/B. Translucent Antique Olive. Varnished. There
are a very small number of contemporary rod makers active today, whose work
is simply the finest extant. Georgia Master builder, Gary Lacey creates a
rod worthy of inclusion in that elite group. Gary's rods are just as darned
close to perfect as any you've ever seen and this is one of his latest
efforts. It has sparkle to take your breath away and a "WOW"
factor that will make you forget to inhale.
Incredible attention to details abound everywhere: from the rich looking,
dark-toned, flamed cane color given life by an impeccable varnish finish, to
the perfectly executed thread wraps, to the hand-made Nickel Silver
ferrules, to the lovely Mahogany wood filler, offset by the richly blued
Nickel Silver seat parts and hardware, to the hand-crafted, F. E. Thomas
style combination front winding check and fly keeper, to the intricate and
detailed signature
wraps, to the delicately engraved maker's signature on the butt cap. All of
the guides are hand-made by Gary in the English reverse configuration of
specially treated Stainless Steel wire that looks like antique bronzed
guides, but won't rust or wear and discolor as quickly. Even the special
Olive Agate stripping guide is totally hand made to compliment incredible
detail that comes across as a complete understatement of beauty. If
workmanship speaks for itself, then this rod simply says it all. What it
does with a DT3 or WF4 line will thrill you no end. In a hand sewn cloth bag
and brass capped rod case. BRAND NEW. 3200.00.

TTT. 2/2. #2. 2-1/8 oz. Medium/Fast. Walnut N/S
S/B. Tan t/Cinnamon. Impregnated. An unusual and rare T&T model made to
special dealer order with an impregnated finish instead of the more common

casts a tight loop and does it with a relatively fast line speed for
pin-point accuracy. Fantastic with flies down to 28 and 8X tippets. This
magnificent T&T may well be the only TTT Model ever built as an impregnated
rod. Like all first line T&T rods it boasts mirror tips and nearly perfect
workmanship. Tiger flaming and early 1990's build date put this rod squarely
in the Tom Moran/ Tom Dorsey time period. Barely fished and still in nearly
new condition. What a delightful rod! N/M. $2950.00

12976. TARANSKY - NICHOLAS A. 6'0".
Monaro MODEL. Tea Stick PRESENTATION Grade
Rod. 2/2. #3/4. 3.5 oz. Fast. Bamboo Dual Ring. Translucent Bronze. Oil
Impregnated/Waxed. When Nick Taransky first contacted me about his rods, I
was quite impressed by his top quality work and immediately wanted to bring
his rods to our US customers. Little did I know, just how much rod building
talent was tucked away in his little corner of Australia! He has just sent
me this incredibly well done work of art that throws a DT3 or WF4 line a
country mile and is only 6 feet long and less than 4 ounces "heavy". Why
such a "heavy" rod weight for such a
small
rod? Look at the handle and reel seat! They are formed out of six strips of
bamboo with a pronounced grip swell and put the extra weight right where it
belongs, in your hand! Rather than fitting a cork grip and wooden
reel seat, a large butt swell was used to form the grip and reel seat. This
required double building the butt section of the cane. The under grip and
swell area was then hollow fluted before glue-up to retain a light feel of
the rod in the hand. The seat was turned down to accommodate slide bands,
and flamed/scorched for additional character. The rod was finished with a
hexagonal butt plate, and clear wraps to maximize the visibility of the cane
beneath. A honey agate stripping guide reflects the flamed color of the
bamboo. It is magnificent to look at, but it is even more
comfortable and practical than you would ever expect and the rod balances
perfectly with a small Hardy Flyweight or Featherweight reel. It is fast and
responsive, throws a DT3 line with a 12" loop, exactly where you aimed it!
Feels as good as 20 feet as is does at 60.AND weighs LESS than 4 ounces. The
Monaro Series is Nick's Best Rod. This rod is built from a single culm of
bamboo with MIRROR tips. Fitted with a perfectly formed,
six-piece
grip and reel seat (all double-built AND hollow-fluted to reduce weight) of bamboo that is actually an extension of the six strips
that form the rod butt. The butt cap is oxidized N/S in a hex-shape and I
still haven't figured out how he got those two N/S oxidized reel seat rings
in place! The ferrules are beautifully oxidized with a bamboo ferrule plug
for the female. As if there was not enough detail work lavished on this rod,
Nick decided to house it in it's very own slim-diameter, hand made,
six-sided wood rod case formed of alternating Jarrah and Spotted Gum strips.
This gorgeous piece of work is housed in a cloth outer sack that matches the
cloth rod bag within. If you are impressed by top quality work in a totally
unique rod, a faster rod action, very tight loops, and significant distance
coupled to fine-tipped accuracy, and enjoy the delightful lightweight feel
of shorter bamboo fly rods and appreciate a dark flamed bamboo finish, then
this is the rod for you! This is a one-of-a-kind rod built to expose as much
bamboo to the eye as possible. This rod was made to celebrate Tonkin
Cane, or "Tea Stick" Bamboo (as it is known in China) as a rod making
material., hence the "Tea Stick" moniker. Sure to prove
a wise investment as Nick's reputation for exceptionally fine work continues to reach more
and more bamboo fans. BRAND NEW. $2295.00. |
