| "Freestone graphite fly rods have been more
than three years
in the making. The three men behind Freestone are Len Codella, Bernard
Ramanauskas and Sam Drukman. The design and production of the Freestone
graphite range of fly rods over the past several years has been very much
the collaboration of the design skills and combined experience of both
Bernard Ramanauskas, of Eden Cane, recipient of several ‘Grey’s Best’,
awards for his innovative fly rod designs and tapers and the late Sam Drukman,
the former head rod designer of Scott and R.L. Winston rod companies.
Sam’s expertise has largely been in the development of composite fly
rods and he was widely known in the industry as Dr. Graphite. Len Codella,
General Manager/Sales, is the third member of the team. Len brings over
40 years experience in the fly fishing industry to the team and was the
former owner of Thomas and Thomas rod builders, and current owner of Len
Codella’s Sporting Collectibles. From the outset, Freestone had one goal – To produce the best graphite fly rods, regardless of price. Freestone rods are designed to catch fish across the full casting spectrum – be it 20 feet or 80 feet, Freestone rods perform perfectly at all distances. After the blanks have been produced, they are individually hand sanded, each reel seat is individually selected, the up-locking reel seat, being the finest quality available, very much reminiscent of those made by the legendary Jim Payne – and in finishing the rod, the guides and silk bindings used are the finest available. Before explaining in brief, two of the design tools developed by Sam and Bernard in the creation of Freestone fly rods, it is essential to point out that ‘design tools’ are just that – they are ‘tools’ only, they do not design rods, they merely assist in the design of rods – It is the combined design skills and experience of both Bernard and Sam that make Freestone fly rods stand out. The two ‘design tools’ developed by Sam and Bernard: Tuned Mass Dampening: (TMD) is, simply put, a technology that allows us to dramatically reduce, or “dampen” vibration during casting. When a rod vibrates, it steals some of the energy that should be transmitted to the fly line and converts it to useless motion that contributes nothing to the cast. In fact, this vibration is not merely useless, it’s counterproductive. In conventional rod making, material is either added or subtracted to the shaft to make these vibrations less noticeable to the caster. TMD allows us to design a rod that overcomes these limitations without adding or subtracting material. The technology dampens gyration and vibration, making performance soar by releasing a much greater portion of the rod’s stored energy smoothly at the end of the cast. The result is improved accuracy and a wider window of practical casting distances. Finite Element Analysis: Bernard and Sam developed software that, in part, uses Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to create a digital deflection model of the rod under load, before the rod is built. The obvious benefits are that countless design computations and fine tuning can be done to perfect the rod blank before it goes into production. Each Freestone fly rod is individually hand crafted by Bernard Ramanauskas. A fly rod designed by flyfishers, for flyfishers – they are a joy to fish – a privilege to own." |

| PROUDLY HAND-CRAFTED IN THE U.S.A. ENTIRELY FROM U.S.A COMPONENTS |
99105. FREESTONE GRAPHITE FLY ROD. 8'6". MODEL 864. 4/1. #4. 3.10 oz. Medium/ Fast. Maple or Kurly Koa - Your Choice. Proprietary. Secret. The Model 864 is Freestone's shortest, lightest, graphite model, precision-tuned for casting dry flies. Generally rods of graphite material for lighter line weights are at best a compromise and often poorly designed to acquiesce to the dictates of the graphite material, which lends itself poorly to light-line rods. For rods that take lighter line weights, travel to Eden Cane bamboo country...short version....stick to bamboo! The 864 simply owns Limestone Creeks, sloughs, high-country brook trout or cutthroat waters. At its best with small to medium dries and nymphs, it still has enough backbone to handle hoppers and woolly buggers when needed. BRAND NEW. $1250.00.
99106. FREESTONE GRAPHITE FLY ROD. 8'6". MODEL 865. 4/1. #4. 3.12 oz. Medium/ Fast. Maple or Kurly Koa - Your Choice. Proprietary. Secret. An all-around Western 5-weight, the 865 is especially adroit with dries. This versatile 865 will handle a broad spectrum of casting challenges - from close, delicate work to pounding the banks with streamers from a drift boat. BRAND NEW. $1250.00.

BRAND NEW. $1250.00.
99108. FREESTONE GRAPHITE FLY ROD. 8'9". MODEL 894. 4/1. #4. 3.20 oz. Medium/. Maple or Kurly Koa - Your Choice. Proprietary. Secret. More limber than the 864, tighter than the 904, the 894 exists in a sweet spot all its own. It's equally at home with dries and nymphs. The 894 is a perfect choice for your all-around, Western-style 4-weight. Excerpts from 'The New Guys and the Old Guys', by James R. Baab. “Gone are the days of niche craftsmanship, the corner store, the neighborhood hardware. Say hello to predatory mega-retailers, offshore production, razor-thin margins, and economies of scale. Idealistic little fly-fishing business, meet consolidation. At least some times.''Freestone unapologetically targets the connoisseur's market ….you get handmade works of art that are also high-performance tools.'.... 'The graphite 8-foot-9-inch 4 weight I've been playing with is a whole different level of elegance, both in its understated cosmetics and its flawless casting characteristics. If fly rods were cars, it'd be an Aston-Martin DB9.' “ BRAND NEW. $1250.00.
99109. FREESTONE GRAPHITE FLY ROD. 9'0". MODEL 904. 4/1. #4. 3.22 oz. Medium. Maple or Kurly Koa - Your Choice. Proprietary. Secret. 99110. FREESTONE GRAPHITE FLY ROD. 9'0". MODEL 905. 4/1. #5. 3.28 oz. Medium/Fast. Maple or Kurly Koa - Your Choice. Proprietary. Secret. A nine-foot 5-weight is universally considered to be "The Graphite Rod" of choice, and ours is the teacher's pet. The 905 will handle dries like a 4-weight and streamers like a 6-weight. It's a precision machine that breaks all the rules and heads up the class. BRAND NEW. $1250.00.

The 908 is an authoritative powerhouse, a barbarian with sleek and nimble table manners; however, has been known to eat a competitors lunch. BRAND NEW. $1250.00.
99114. FREESTONE GRAPHITE FLY ROD. 9'6". MODEL 965. 4/1. #5. 3.72 oz. Medium. Maple or Kurly Koa - Your Choice. Proprietary. Secret. Conventional wisdom dictates that longer 5-weights are "clunkers". That verdict is largely well deserved, but not for our 965. This rod performs with all the aplomb of a solid 9-footer, but that extra 6 inches gives you significantly more line control and eases up on the casting effort. BRAND NEW. $1250.00.
