If you want "ready to go", contemporary fishing rods, then back-cast to the Classic Rod section. All rods listed here may require some repair to be restored to fishing condition OR are those that may be very old, or may have significant historic value, or may have unusual features or rarity that make them of strong interest to the collector. They may be in perfect condition or they may require considerable repair to make them whole again. Antique and Collector rods generally are special rods, that perhaps should not be repaired so as to preserve their scarce originality. All have been checked for soundness and are worth restoring. All are accurately described as to condition. Handyman Rods that require repair will be so stated. No bag or case unless specified. All these rods are sold "AS IS" with no return privilege.

               31268.  Abbey & Imbrie STEEL fly ROD.  9'0".  Riverside Steel Rod.  3/1.  Black Paint.  Made by Bristol- Horton for A&I in the 20's.  In complete original  condition and featuring guides, brass ferrules, chromed. detachable handle stamped "Riverside". Some corrosion present, but will clean up pretty well. Needs only the tip-top loop soldered on. In the original bag.  F.  25.00.

 

        31259.  bait casting ROD blank.  6'0".  Montague ??.  2/1.  5/8 oz lures.  None.  Varnished.  This is a 1920's production Chicago Style bait cast rod by Montague in poor condition. It is a blank only with ferrules, but no seat or guides. Both sections are full length. The blank needs stripping, a new Grip and seat,  guides, Heat straightening and refinishing and in the hands of someone with a bit of know-how and talent, this rod will come back to a fun fishing tool.   31240.    CHUBB / MONTAGUE  ?? UNMARKED.   9'6".  Trout. 3/2. 5/6. Slow Wet Fly. Full N/S Slide Band. /Red t/Black. Varnished. Very Early Chubb/Montague's (ca. 1900's) light action trout rod. Rod appears mostly original in condition and retains the original flip ring guides. Butt section is 1" short from ferrule reset. Reel seat features a full N/S slide band with sculptured reel foot side rails, a Chubb trademark. Wraps are deteriorated, varnish is also, having been over-coated years ago and now discolored. Missing one or two guides and needs complete refinish. This higher grade Chubb/Montague will restore nicely with some talented work and has show-piece potential. F.   150.00

 

31284. GRANGER -GOODWIN. 9'6". EARLY MODEL. 3/1. #6/7. 5.0 oz. Medium. Full N/S S/B. Green. Varnished. Rare original Goodwin Granger. Sweet action, early, (late 1920's) 9-1/2 footer for a DT6 or WF7 line. Superb heavy trout rod. Powerful, yet easy to cast. The original varnish is rough, but the rod could be fished as is. Really should be rubbed down and give a fresh varnish re-coat to freshen the rod up. Light color bamboo, Coke bottle grip and bright ferrules and reel seat stamped "Made by Goodwin Granger, Denver". All the snakes are the original style bronze units and the original red Agate stripper is there too. No bag or case. Will restore beautifully. F. 175.00.

 

          31286. EDWARDS – BRISTOL. 9'0". Bristol F-7. 3/3. #7. 5-3/8 oz. Medium/Fast. Nickel over Brass full metal S/B seat. Red. Varnished. Made in Bristol CT at the Edwards factory. Lettered "Bristol F-7" on the rod shaft in white ink. The original varnish is good and the rod is perfectly sound and fish able as is. There are three tips, one with a repair overwrap visible in the photo. All three are fish able. One is 1" short and fully sound. One is 1-1/2" short with the overwrap and the third is 7" short with no repairs. Red Agate Stripping guide. This is a delightful small mouth bass rod to cast and throws a WF7 line like a rocket. Perfect for trout and light bass fishing. Complete with the original cloth bag and original aluminum case. Very low price considering the quality level and immediate fish ability of this rod, but the short tips allow a great buy to be had. VG. $295.00

 

31235.       Heddon ?? UNMARKED 5'0”.   Bait Cast.     2/2.     Nickel S/B.     Red w/ Red Intermediates.     Varnished.     A distinctive little swelled butt on this rod suggests that it might be an early Heddon or other higher grade production Bait Caster.    Butt Guide and tip-tops are Agate.    Handle missing butt hostel, otherwise Appears original..    No bag or case.                F.    40.00

 

31283. HEDDON. 9'0". Model 14. 3/2. #6/7. 5.0 oz. Medium/Fast. Brown Tenite rev N/S S/L. Red. Varnished. Sweet action, early 9 footer for a DT6/ or WF7 line. Superb, #2-1/2 ferrule, trout rod. Powerful, yet easy to cast. The original varnish is rough, but the rod could be fished as is. Really should be rubbed down and give a fresh varnish re-coat to freshen the rod up. Oxidized ferrules and reel seat hardware with the original Tenite seat mounted in the unusual UP LOCKING position. Even the snakes and tops are the original style bronze units and the original red Agate stripper needs re-wrapping. Complete with the original cloth bag and wooden form tip holder. The name Heddon is spiral written on the shaft placing this original condition rod back into 1930's. Will restore beautifully. F. 225.00.

 

31272.  H-I - cunningham.  7'4".  3/1.  #4.  Medium.  Nickel  Locking S/B.  Deep Red.  Varnished.  This was one H-I 's highest quality fly rods and was constructed with a steel wire running down the center of the rod for strength.  The rod been modified to this shorter length and is fitted with serviceable ferrules. Needs no work to fish with. In a cloth bag only, no case.  F.  65.00.

 

31285. H-I (Horrocks-Ibbotson).   7'0".    Tonka Prince. 2/1.  #5.  3.0 oz.  Medium/Fast. Tenite S/L. Green. Varnished. This model is much respected by those familiar with it as it is not a half-bad trout rod. Quick and easy to cast with a #5 line. The original varnish is rough, but the rod could be fished as is. Really should be stripped to the blank, heat straightened, the cheesy grip and reel seat replaced with something nice and new guides installed and then re-varnished. Anyone willing to do that work will be rewarded with a very fishable fly rod. No bag or case. F. 165.00.

 

                              31238.  JAPANESE FLY ROD.  8'6".  3/2.  5/6.  Medium/Fast.  Missing reel seat.  Green.  Varnished.  Typically poor quality construction common to all post war Japanese made rods. The four rod sections are all full length and the rod is restorable. Needs another reel seat and will accept an old glass rod seat easily removed from a flea market Junker, guides replaced, ferrules re-glued, etc. This is a perfect project rod to practice straightening and bamboo refinishing on. No bag or case.  P.  25.00.

 

31231.  LEONARD.  9'6".  Special Tournament.  3/2.  #8.  6.0 oz.  Medium.  Full N/S S/B.  Red tipped Dark Red w/ Red Intermediates.  Varnished.  Late 1930's Leonard Special Tournament heavy trout or light bass and salmon rod with everything mostly original. Some guides have been replaced and redone and the second tip is 6" short. Original cloth bag and Leonard brass capped aluminum case.  Full Nickel Silver slide band seat is stamped "The Leonard Rod, H.L.Leonard Rod Co., Makers. Fine tips and nice action provide a smooth casting rod. Nice collector. Needs complete redo. Poor to Fair original condition. An ideal steel heading rod when redone.  F.  295.00.

 

            31270.  maltby - charles s.  8'6".  Fly Rod.  3/2.  #7/8.  5-1/4 oz.  Medium/Fast.  Full N/S S/B.  Black.  Varnished.  This is a very well made rod from an unknown ( to me) maker that is rather impressive. The rod shaft is rubber stamped with the Matlby name with no other markings evident. The hardware and fitting are highest grade and include an Agate stripper. The rod is straight and the ferrules are excellent. The varnish looks great, but is beginning to soften and will need stripped and recoated to restore. All sections are full length and the rod casts a DT& or WF8 with total control and authority. This will make one fine bass or steelhead rod. after the work in the hands of someone with a bit of know-how and talent.  In a cloth bag and aluminum case.  F.  175.00.

 

             31274.  maltby - charles s.  8'6".  Unmarked Fly Rod.  3/1.  #5.  5 oz.  Medium.  Full N/S S/B.  Deep Brown.  Varnished.  This is a very well made rod from an unknown ( to me) maker. What is most impressive about this rod is its design which features a 29" butt, a 32" mid and a fine 42" tip. There is no question it was made that way and the action is really superb and light for a DT5 line. The rod is  not signed, but is clearly from the same builder as the signed Matlby rod for sale here. The hardware and fitting are highest grade and include an Agate stripper. The rod is straight and the ferrules are excellent. The varnish looks great, but is beginning to soften and will need stripped and recoated to restore. This will make one fine trout rod. after the varnish work. In a cloth bag and unique aluminum case.  G.  125.00.   SOLD

 

31265.  Montague ??  UNMARKED FLY ROD.  8'6".  3/2.  #5/6.  Medium/Fast.  Tenite  S/L.  Varnished.  This is a 1930's production rod by Montague in poor condition. It is complete with a Tenite down-lock screw lock reel seat and good ferrules. One tip is 2"short and the other is delaminating and will need re-gluing, but is restorable. The rod needs guides, Heat straightening and refinishing and in the hands of someone with a bit of know-how and talent, this rod will come back to an excellent fishing tool. 31261.  Montague/Chubb ?? UNMARKED fly ROD.  8'6".   3/1.  #5/6.  Medium.  Full Metal S/B.  Varnished.  This is an early1920's production rod by Montague/Chubb in poor condition. It is complete with a Chubb Style Slide Band reel seat and replaced ferrules. The mid section is 3" short and the rod is still quite fishable. Needs guides, Heat straightening and refinishing and in the hands of someone with a bit of know-how and talent, this rod will come back to an excellent fishing tool. No bag or case.  P.  35.00.

 

31260.   Montague/Chubb ?? UNMARKED fly ROD.  9'0".   3/1.  #5/6.  Slow Wet Fly.  Full Metal S/B.  Varnished.  This is an early1920's production rod by Montague/Chubb in poor condition. It is complete with a Chubb Style Slide Band reel seat and all ferrules. All sections are full length and still quite fishable. This rod is an excellent candidate for restoration as is or could lend itself to being modified into a 7 foot rod for a #4/5 line by refitting the top end of the butt section with a new grip and reel seat. Needs guides, Heat straightening and refinishing and in the hands of someone with a bit of know-how and talent, this rod will come back to an excellent fishing tool. No bag or case.  P.  35.00.

 

31279.  Montague.  6'0" and 9'0".  Eel River.  3/3.  #6/7 & 1/2 oz lures.  Medium.  Chromed Brass S/L.  Green.  Varnished.  This is a 1920's Montague similar to the popular Splitswitch Model. Has a detachable, reversible handle that converts the rod into a 6'0 Bait Caster and by using the fly rod mid & tip you get a 9'0" Medium action rod for a #6/7 line. There are actually two tips for the casting rod portion, one light and one heavy. Comes with a wooden tip form in a rod tube,  no bag.  Needs nothing to fish.  VG.  95.00.

 

31281.  Montague.  9'0".  Clipper.  3/1.  #5/6.  Medium.  Tenite D/L S/L.  Bark Blue T/ White.  Varnished.  This is a 1940's Montague Clipper with a very nice light trout action for a DT5 or WF6 line.  All sections straight and  full length.  Needs nothing to fish. No Bag, but has original cardboard case.  VG.  100.00.

 

31278.  Montague.  8'3".  early Varney Montague.  3/1.  #5.  Slow - Wet Fly.  Chromed Brass S/B.  Red T/ Gold.  Varnished.  This is a 1920 Montague that has bee n shortened from 8'6" and nicely refinished. The action is slow and soft, perfect for wet and nymph fishing. The 34" mid is 1.5" longer; and the tip is 1.5" shorter; than the butt.  Comes in  a cloth rod bag only, no case. Needs nothing to fish.  VG.  75.00.

 

31280.  Montague.  9'0".  Clear Lake.  3/1.  #6/7.  Medium.  Chromed Brass S/B.  Red.  Varnished.  This is a 1930's Montague with a  Medium action for a #6/7 line. All sections full length.  Needs nothing to fish. No Bad or case.  VG.  75.00.

 

31277.  Montague.  9'0".  D & E Hardware.  3/2.  6/7.  Medium/Fast.  Chromed Brass S/B.  Blue.  Varnished.  Made for D&E Hardware by Montague in the 1930's. Comes in  a cloth covered wooden rod form. One tip is 1" short from a ferrule reset. Reel seat is stamped in the metal with the D&E logo in a Diamond border with an Arrow running through it. Needs nothing to fish.  G.  75.00.

 

31276.  Montague.  9'0".  J. C. Higgins.  3/2.  6/7.  Medium/Fast.  Chromed Brass S/B.  Green.  Varnished.  After a little bit of waxing and clean-up, this rod will step right out and fish for you just fine. Made for Sears by Montague in the 1940's. Comes in an Army Surplus M8 Machine Gun Barrel Canvas Sack that was used by Montague after the war to package and sell their rods.  G.  75.00.

 

       31282.  Montague.  9'0".  Lake Pleasant.  3/2.  #5/6.  Medium.  Chromed Brass S/B.  Red.  Varnished.  This is a 1950's Montague Lake Pleasant, one of their better quality rods, with a very nice light trout action for a DT5 or WF6 line.  All sections straight and  full length.  Everything as original. Has seen virtually no real use. Even has the original paper info label on the cork grip, Excellent condition and needs nothing to fish. Replacement cloth bag and Aluminum rod case.  E.  150.00.

 

31262.  Montague FLY ROD.  9'0".  Highland.  3/1.  #6.  Medium/Fast.  Full Metal S/B.  Varnished.  This is a 1930's production rod by Montague/Chubb in poor condition. It is complete with a Chubb Style Slide Band metal reel seat and all ferrules. All sections are full length and still quite fishable. This rod is an excellent candidate for restoration as is. Needs guides, Heat straightening and refinishing and in the hands of someone with a bit of know-how and talent, this rod will come back to an excellent fishing tool. No bag or case.  P.  40.00.

 

31244.  Montague ?? Unmarked.  5'0".  Salt Water Bamboo Boat Rod.  2/1.  Bay & Boat Rod.  Chromed.  Golden Orange.  Varnished.  Seldom found in whole and still usable condition.  Rod has seen lots of use, but remains in sound fishing condition. From the 194 with re-enforced ferrules and real AGATE GUIDES and Tip -Top. Great display piece for very little money. No bag or case.  G.  15.00

 

31121.     REPLACEMENT BAMBOO TIP SECTIONS.    Tip blanks  that measure 40". The tip is 0.080 and the ferrule end is 0.190. The node pattern is random staggered. The color is medium dark. These tip blanks are straight and sound and show workmanship equivalent to Phillipson, Heddon, Granger. Order as many as you need until we're out. Unused. 75.00

 

                           31251. SHAKESPEARE.  8'6". Model 1308-7. 3/2. 6/7. 5 oz. Fast. Alum. Spring Loaded Rev S/L. Red t/Gold. Varnished. A basically quite sound and tight faster action fly rod in fair overall original condition. Some guides are rusty so it will need new guides and varnish to restore to top condition. The second tip is 1" short. Still has the original shaft decal under the alligator varnish. Original Bag only, no case. Neat old vintage rod with an excellent fishable action that will be fun to use after a proper refinish. F. 135.00.

 

          31256.  SHAKESPEARE  FLY ROD.  9'0".  Umarked.  3/1.  #6.  Medium/Fast.  Reverse S/L.  Varnished.  This is a 1930's production rod by Shakespeare in poor condition. It is complete with a restorable reel seat and good N/S ferrules. The original mid section is 6" short and while still fishable, the rod includes a replacement mid-section blank that is beginning to delaminate and will require re-gluing if you choose to use it. Or you can opt to refinish the rod as found. Either way, in the hands of someone with a bit of know-how and talent, this rod will come back to a decent fishing tool. No bag or case.  P.  40.00.

 

         31269.  SHAKESPEARe FLY ROD.  9'0".  Unmarked.  3/2.  #5/6.  Medium/Slow.  Full N/S S/B.  Antique Gold w/full Intermediates.  Varnished.  This is an early 1930's production rod  likely made by Edwards for Shakespeare in fair original condition The hardware and fitting are high grade and the rod portrays the work of early Bill Edwards. The original decal is MIA as is a single snake guide. It is complete with good N/S ferrules, a re-usable Agate Stripper and Agate tip-tops. All sections are full length and still quite fishable. The rod needs a new wraps and varnish in the hands of someone with a bit of know-how and talent. This rod will come back to a real treasure.  In the original cloth bag and early Shakespeare aluminum case.  F.  150.00.

 

         31264.  south bend FLY ROD.  8'6".  Model 59.  3/1.  #5/6.  Medium/Fast.  Reverse S/L.  Varnished.  This is a 1930's production rod by South Bend in poor condition. It is complete with a Tenite reverse style screw lock reel seat and good ferrules. The tip is 1" short and delaminating and will need re-gluing for use. This rod could be trimmed back to a good 8 footer. The rod needs guides, Heat straightening and refinishing and in the hands of someone with a bit of know-how and talent, this rod will come back to an excellent fishing tool. 31183. TRUE TEMPER. 4'6". Square Steel Bait Cast Rod. Mercury Model. from the 40's. Trigger grip square steel bait casting rod fitted with metal guides and tops. Marked "Mercur" on the shaft decal. Red painted cast aluminum trigger handle detaches from the one-piece rod shaft. The tip nestles into a fitted vinyl case for shaft and handle. E. 15.00

 

           31271.  UTK - early H-i.  9'6".  3/2.  #6.  Slow.  Nickel  S/B.  Tan.  Varnished.  This is a early production rod made by Horrocks-Ibbotson in the twenties.  The rod is complete with all sections full length and with serviceable ferrules. Needs a complete redo and some additional snakes added to bring to ideal fishing condition. Packed in a felt covered wooden form in a cloth bag.  F.  75.00.

 

   

           31275.  WEBER METAL ROD/REEL CARRY BOX.  39"  x 4" x 2", 1940's Green Enameled Steel Metal ,Fly Rod, Reel and Tackle box with the Weber label  Steel folding handle and two steel snap closures secure the box.  Decal in very good condition on the cover. Designed to house up to a 9' 3-piece fly rod in its cloth bag.  This box would really make a great display with an old bamboo or steel rod, some period reels and an aluminum or leather fly box or two and a gut leader box, some snelled wet flies, etc. Have fun. Great display piece to set up a knock-out tackle display. Very rare Classic collectible.  VG.  45.00.

 

       31273.  winchester.  9'3".  Armax  #7243.  3/1.  #5/6.  Medium.  Nickel S/B.  Deep Red.  Varnished.  Winchester brand, "Armax" rod.  Ornate winding check, Richardson n/s stripper, n/s ferrules.  The rod been modified to this shorter length from 9'6" by resetting the ferrules and the mid is 10" short. Needs no work to fish with. and feels pretty good. In a cloth bag only, no case.  F.  65.00.
