Styled after fly fishing’s finest classic reels using the best of modern technology and manufacturing techniques, the Peerless reels feature a revolutionary, EXTERNALLY adjustable pawl drag system with all parts machined from stainless steel and aluminum. The Steelhead #5 and Salmon #6 reels employ the pawl system as an adjunct to their primary drag system, one which was designed nearly 100 years ago by Edward vom Hofe and has enjoyed almost a century of success as one of the best fly reel drag designs ever.

These reels are generally available from stock for immediate delivery. They are as well crafted as any reel in current production with no long wait to get one. Bearings - The bearings are oil impregnated bronze, which hold lubricant long after other materials have "run dry" and are hard enough to provide lifetime of wear and remain true and smooth. Peerless chose this expensive type of bearing over roller or ball bearings because they are best suited for the real world conditions of sand, dirt, etc.
Bearing Shaft - The stainless steel shaft is centerless ground to exacting tolerances to provide a smoothness that is expected of a quality reel. Centerless ground means simply, that the shaft is machined to eliminate the slightest bend or set and is absolutely straight.
No Glare Finish – They designed these reels to be fished and fished hard! Since Peerless reels are handmade, they wanted to preserve their good looks and felt that a shiny fish would be detrimental for fishing to "spooky" fish. So, they developed a subtle, but attractive matte anodized finish to prevent corrosion and provide resistance to scratches, etc.
The Pawl System – The pawl system is their own "in house" design. With the Peerless system you may adjust the drag and also have right hand - left hand reversibility. The adjustment of drag is done by a simple turning of a knob for those who require frequent drag adjustments. (Pat. applied for). Their pawl system has been designed to provide a very smooth click, in and out. The stainless steel pawl and gear have been carefully matched for material compliance and for close tolerances. Peerless reels are among the smoothest available today.
Reel Integrity - To maintain the smoothness, strength and close tolerances for years of use, Peerelss reels forgo quick spool interchange capability. All parts are machined; stampings or castings are not used.

Salmon & Spey Reels

Done in the spirit and substance of the classic vom Hofe salmon reels of yesterday, many of which are still pressed into service each new season after 50 to 100 years of flawless service. The Peerless Salmon reels are designed with the expectation of lasting a lifetime and performing flawlessly while doing it. The demands on a reel for salmon fishing are quite different than for large trout. The first is line and backing capacity, the second is the need for a positive drag system.

It is generally common knowledge that one of the best drag systems ever, was invented nearly 100 years ago by Edward vom Hofe. This unique system not only has a non-fade, non-sticking drag, it also is the only self cleaning system! The only problem with the original vom Hofe reel is an occasional material failure based on the limitations in the materials available to vom Hofe at the time. Peerless has modified and improved the design with the introduction of modern materials designed to give better service than the original vom Hofe, (as if 100 years isn’t long enough!) In addition to the primary von Hofe style drag system, each Peerless salmon reel has added an internal adjustable pawl system to prevent the possibility of “free spooling”.

These hand worked reels are designed to perform and meet the expectations of the most critical and demanding salmon and steelhead fisherman. These reels are not reversible and must be ordered either right or left hand wind. Their one piece frame, spool and lovely S-Handle promise a delightful reliability; these fine reels do deliver.

These latest additions to the traditional style Peerless trout reels are designed to satisfy those fly fishermen who want to fish with the classic raised pillar design of yesteryear, but want the smooth, rugged engineering and performance of a modern reel. Absolutely the best of both worlds, these gems from Peerless feature right hand - left hand reversibility and an inside adjustable click and pawl drag, the same oil impregnated bearings, stainless steel spool shaft, pawl gear, pawl, etc. as do the other Peerless reels. They are machined from solid bar stock with the famous no-glare Black/Silver anodized finish to prevent corrosion. Handsome, well built, and a perfect match to your finest rod.
