GODFREY WESTMINSTER TROUT REELS
The typical vom Hofe or Walker style reel is rather heavy; the Godfrey
Classic Reels are lighter than these Vintage Reels and the Godfrey
Westminster reels are even lighter yet. The
Westminster Reel sets a new standard for light weight and fine workmanship.
These arethe perfect reels for
short cane rods and all high quality graphite rods. Unique Design features
include elegant Nickel Silver bands, screws, and all other fittings, plus rich and durable Black hard-coat finished aluminum side plates. A benchmark design for today's lighter weight rods.

-
Excellent smaller cane rod and graphite rod balance
-
Handle Arm: Choice of Westminster or Serpentine arm
-
Handle Knob: Black, White, Swelled, Straight..
-
Solid front plate and spool.
-
Single screw take-apart.
-
Easy LH - RH change over.
-
The Two and a Half Inch Reels -
Two and three weight reels are
smallest reels that Ted
currently makes. Great for the seven foot and even shorter rods cane
rods including the Baby Catskill, (requires a special reel foot at
no extra charge). These models are truly
classic size reels, but they are much lighter weight
than the vintage hard rubber side plate reels.
-
The Two and Three
Quarter Inch Reels - These reels vary in width for
increased capacity and are best for the small or medium sized rods
and for stream fishing for Trout.
-
The Big Three Inch Reels -
Great river
fishing reels for medium and long Cane Rods or that special graphite
or classic glass rod. The extra diametere is great fro faster line
retieve for trout and bass. Ted likes the 306D for fishing the
Juanita in Pennsylvania.
WESTMINSTER BALANCE -
Due to the
relative simplicity of assembly, the Westminster is the lowest
priced Godfrey reel available. As a benchmark design it has
"spawned' reel design concepts that are found in some of the most
unique of Godfrey Reels. As a pinnacle reel, the Westminster remains
the most versatile in its many model sizes and is one of the most
customer designed reel of all the Godfrey Models.

The Brown Trout
Reel is an elegant step up in design and features with special, new
perforated face plate and new back plate. The Brown Trout features an
elegant nickel
silver and bronze medallion at the center. The face plate
with its circle of red dots inside
the circle of ports makes this reel very
unique among classic style reels. Other features
are the same as the very
popular Westminster reel including nickel silver bands and
fittings,
5-position drag adjustment, and light weight aluminum handle arm and spool.

Master Series - Brook Trout Reel
|
|

Francis
Philbrook was a tool and die maker
of Maine. We have him to thank at least in part for
the Leonard raised pillar reels and his name has been attached
to the marbled red and black reels. Still in controversy it
seems that it is not obvious that the sides are
made of hard rubber as one historian postulated that it was a
combination of other natural resins that were
imported in great variety a hundred years ago. Nevertheless, a red reel of striking contrasting hues is a
commanding statement on any reel! |
|
The Godfrey Master Series Brook Trout Reel
is inspired by the revered Philbrook -
Payne mottled reels. But it is
modernized with
single screw take down and the Westminster
adjustable
drag system. This makes for a far more functional and
user
friendly reel than the traditional design with so many screws
to remove and no adjustment mechanism.
The obvious uniqueness is of the sides is a "labor of love"
involving heavily driving dies of various shapes into
quarter inch
thick aluminum plate. This die driving
bows the plate and
complicates the process of
shaping and forming, and finishing to
make a
finished reel side plate - arduous work to be sure, but
worth
it. The indentations are filled with making and then the
plates
black anodized at Eastern Plating, one of the very few
anodizing
companies still doing this type of work. Back at the
shop
the indentations are cleared of making, filled with red epoxy
and the whole plate ground and polished to perfection.

| The
Perfectionist Reel |
|
The Perfectionist is the toughest
most elegant of all raised pillar reels.
It also has the most precise drag
adjustment of any spring pawl
type reel available. Now in production for
ten years, the early
Classic and the perfected Perfectionist reels have
become the
most popular of all Godfrey reels.
This finely detailed reel combines many unique features for
lasting beauty --
the Vom Hofe style adjustment knob,
traditional black side plates, and
unique and elegant 6-pillar
raised pillar frame made of hand-cut and
polished nickel silver.
The reel is elegant in simplicity yet very functional with
its 9-position pawl
and spring drag adjustment and of course
single screw take down. This reel
mechanism is the result of
three years of design and testing which has yielded
a
calibrated, linear adjust system with true repeatability - drag
tension in
adjust-up same as adjust-down.
Making this reel has been a labor of love and I think of it
as a reel for the
"serious" angler. Note that the drag range can
be custom calibrated per your
request.

Five Weight Reels - Model 305 reel is for
those who want a more narrow profile and a little faster
line retrieve.
The 306 and 306D - Six Weight Reels - By
some standards these are still fairly light and will
generally balance any 8 foot cane rod or 9 foot graphite
rod. Excellent choice for all-around fishing for trout and
bass in the great rivers of North America.

anywhere fine-tippet finesse angling or sheer power is
needed.
Featuring classic
nickel silver fittings, smooth adjustable drag, elegant design, heavy duty
frame with elegant heavy duty nickel
silver bands, and massive bearings, the

Paradigm Three and
Four Weight Reels - The Beaverkill at two and a half inch diameter is a
true classic, but with all the modern Paradigm power and features. The Spruce Creek is definitely the most popular
workhorse Paradigm Reel while the sleek, narrow profile Penns Creek is "the
reel" for lighter and shorter three and four weight rods.
The Malleo and Madison Reels - The five weights: The
Malleo is the standard reel for a weight forward or double taper five line
with more or less backing. This is the best all around reel for seven and
half and eight foot cane rods. The new Madison three inch reel is a great
reel with that classic American narrow profile and quick line retrieve.
The Ausable Reel -
For five and six weight: The
popular Ausable model is the standard full function relatively light reel
for six weight line.
The Big Horn Reels -
The Large Drag System Six Weight Reels: The Big
Horn and The Bruce Paradigm Reels. The Bruce is named for Dr. Bruce
Thatcher, the head of Feathered Hook International - angling travel. He
determined that a larger diameter trout reel with larger capacity and
faster retrieve would best suit his varied angling interests. The Big
Horn and The Bruce with the larger diameter power drag system are
specifically designed to provide great line control and added power to
stop large trout and bass. The added backing capacity is housed in a
very classy narrow profile frame. Given all this, these are the very
best large river -- large trout reels available!

| THE GODFREY
HERITAGE BI-METAL REEL |
 |
|
The Godfrey Heritage BiMetal Reel
is back with
improvements both in
styling and material. This is obviously modeled
after the famous
Leonard BiMetal with nickel silver sides and bronze
frame.
This lovely BiMetal features new dies cut to
make the face plate name
and harder - more scratch resistant
nickel silver, plus a prettier bronze
frame.
Like all Godfrey
reels the BiMetal features single screw take down and
the
tried-and-true adjustable click pawl drag system. Due to the
weight
of the nickel silver, this reel is produced in the
smaller sizes for three
to five weight lines. This is a
wonderfully functional, and certainly an
elegant statement to
complement your favorite cane rod.

Three and Four Weight Reels - These
two reels are arch typical BiMetal along traditional lines
with somewhat narrower frames. Chose the BGI-35 for either
two and three weight double taper lines and adjust the
amount of backing accordingly.
The Five Weight BiMetal Reel - The GBI-45 is definitely
the most popular BiMetal model! Having the same frame
diameter as the other two reels, it is not a large weight
increase and is versatile for many 7 1/2 foot to eight foot
cane rods of many different line weights and actions.

Salmon - Steelhead Models:
Rio Grande, Deschutes, and Babine have all the features of the Custom 3.5
inch
Salmon Reels, but are narrower and lighter in weight. The spools are
narrower to accommodate small diameter
20 lb braided backing. Designed for
maximum line control, the Custom Steelhead reels are full-featured with
geared retrieve. When looking for sheer power and elegant detailed
reelsmithing, you are "home" with the
Custom Steelhead Reels.
The Salmon Models:
For over 20 years the Godfrey Salmon Reels have caught thousands of Atlantic
salmon
around the world. Since the Custom Salmon Reels are designed to
provide more than adequate backing capacity,
simply choose a Custom Reel to
match your salmon rod line designation.
The Spey Reels:
- The Salmon II and Salmon III Custom Spey Reels feature large capacity for
300 yards of
backing plus a full size modern spey line. These four inch
diameter reels have double pillar design for extra
rigidity. The drag system
has heavier shoes and powerful drag spring for extra power for handling
heavy fish in
fast water.
